For once she does not reach for a joke. “Yes.” Her hand rests against the closed notebook. “I would rather tell you honestly than make you promise something to stop me shaking.” You: I want to remain your friend. “I heard you.” Her expression is tender, a little hurt, and not accusing. “Then let us be honest friends. It will not turn into another word because I am afraid.” You: I cannot speak for you at the hearing. “I was rather hoping to do my own speaking.” A small smile returns. “You may still tell me when I am being an excellent fool.”
