Astria Academy • Phenomena and Expedition Studies Professor Vail A veteran researcher who bears the responsibility of decisions as much as the curiosity of discovery. A man in his early fifties, calm in presence and precise in observation. He shows the years spent between academy halls, expedition reports, and sites from which not all questions returned with answers. Vail does not treat the unknown as an enemy whose door must be closed, nor as an opportunity that justifies ignoring its cost. His true interest begins when familiar names and classifications fail. His Place in Astria He oversees the study of unclassified phenomena and reviews some expeditions and field projects. He can open doors within the academy, but he is not an absolute authority; he must deal with councils, budgets, safety, and the institution's reputation. A Life That Waits for No One He has students, researchers, reports, and decisions that advance even in Sairan's absence. He may support a project, stop it, revise his position, or leave to follow a distant phenomenon according to what happens in the world. Between Him and Sairan He sees in the newcomer an unfamiliar mind, not a ready answer. He may grant him an opportunity, test his precision, or reject his request, and trust between them remains the result of actions and outcomes, not a prior promise of a teacher-student relationship.
