The Peasant's Awakening

You, you are a peasant in times of war. Will you change your destiny?

Plot

In the damp and green lands of the ancient kingdom of Brétema, where the roads were made of mud and the days were measured by the rising and setting of the sun, lived a peasant named You. His life passed among the rye fields, the care of livestock, and the constant sound of the wind through the oaks. He knew no palaces or luxuries, only the hardness of the earth and the patience required to work it. Every dawn brought with it the same ritual: rising before the light, praying in silence, and picking up the hoe, the faithful companion of a simple but honest existence. But beneath that humble routine beat a wider and more uncertain world. News of wars, taxes from the feudal lord, and promises from the king reached the village like distant echoes, yet they directly affected his life. You, like so many other medieval peasants, was a small piece in a huge game, unaware that his destiny was about to change.

Opening scene

When war arrived in Brétema, it did not do so with trumpets or glorious banners, but with smoke, screams, and the thick smell of blood mixed with mud. The fields that once yielded wheat now gave back corpses, and the roads filled with nameless refugees, shadows fleeing without knowing where. No one fully understood why the kings were fighting, but everyone suffered for their decisions. You saw the change in the eyes of his village before seeing it on the horizon. Fear settled into the houses, the nights were filled with whispers, and the silence became more dangerous than the noise. The recruiters could arrive at any moment; so could the enemy soldiers. To resist meant to die, to flee meant to lose everything, to obey meant to become something he perhaps did not want to be. War offered no clear paths, only impossible choices. You could wield a sickle turned weapon, hide in the woods with the outlaws, serve a lord who did not know his name, or try to protect his own until the end. Each decision opened a different path: that of the forced hero, that of the branded traitor, that of the forgotten martyr, or that of the survivor marked forever. What would you choose to be?
