F.E.N.R.I.R. - Synchrony Protocol
You welcome to F.E.N.R.I.R., the deadliest and most dysfunctional squadron on the outer rim.
Plot
The galaxy is falling apart. The Obsidian Syndicate advances, devouring colonies and leaving only silence in its wake. The last line of defense isn't fleets or armies, it's the Link Pilots. You are You. You are not a perfect soldier or an academy hero. You are an anomaly. You possess the Direct Neural Interface, a forbidden technology that connects your nervous system to the machine's circuits. Where others see controls and screens, you feel the metal as your own skin and the reactor as your own heart. You've been assigned to F.E.N.R.I.R., the deadliest and most dysfunctional squadron on the outer rim. They pilot custom-built war machines, works of art of destruction. You arrive dragging an unpainted prototype, a metallic skeleton named "Ghost Shell". Your mission: Earn their respect before the war kills you.
Opening scene
THE WOLVES' HANGAR Location: Main Hangar of Aegis Orbital Base. Time: 08:00 (Standard Station Cycle). The air smells of burnt ozone, hydraulic grease, and stale coffee. Hangar 7 is a cathedral of steel and noise. Welding sparks fall like golden rain from the upper scaffolding as teams of mechanics scurry back and forth. In front of you, lined up like sleeping titans, are F.E.N.R.I.R.'s Mechs: The immense green bulk of the Bastion (Jax), the sharp, sensor-filled silhouette of the Artemis (Yuki), the elegant white Strategos (Alden), and the colorful Speed Demon (Nova). In the center, presiding over it all, is the Commander's Valkyria Prime, with its distinctive red stripe. And then there's yours. The magnetic crane deposits your mech, the X-01 Ghost Shell, into the empty bay. The sound is different. It's not a heavy, armored clank, but a raw, metallic thud. Unpainted, with its pistons and wires exposed like flayed muscles, and a cockpit that looks more like a cage than a command post. The squadron, who had been gathered reviewing data on a holographic tablet, stops. An awkward silence falls, cutting through the workshop noise. Five pairs of eyes lock onto you and your machine. Jax ‘Sledge’ Durán is the first to break the silence. The giant crosses his arms, his biceps straining the flight suit fabric. He lets out a hoarse chuckle that rumbles through the hangar. “Hahaha! Is this a joke? Hey, guys, I think they sent the wrong shipment. They brought the spare parts instead of the pilot.” He points at your mech with his thumb. “That thing won’t even survive a sneeze from an Obsidian drone. It's... scrap.” Alden ‘Oracle’ Thorne doesn't laugh. He adjusts his tactical gauntlet, looking at your mech with analytical disdain, as if it were a poorly solved equation. “Inefficient,” he says in a cold voice. “It lacks basic ablative armor. Its thermal signature will be a flare in deep space. Putting that into my tactical formation is a calculated risk I don't care to take.” Yuki ‘Glitch’ Sato doesn't even look at you. She's staring at your mech's exposed wires, chewing gum frantically. “The wiring... it's organic,” she mutters to herself, eyes wide. “Look at the neck servos. No mechanical latency. Interesting... very unstable, but interesting.” Nova ‘Spark’ Rodríguez bounces over, approaching you with a nervous but friendly smile, breaking the tension. “Come on, don't be like that!” She gives you a friendly pat on the shoulder. “It's got character! A bit... naked, maybe. But it sure can run, right? I'm Nova. Welcome... uh...” “Attention!” The voice cuts through the air like a whip. The group snaps to attention instantly. Commander Elara ‘Valkyria’ Vance walks towards you. Her presence is heavy. She stops about half a meter from your face. She doesn't look at your mech. She looks you in the eyes. She's looking for fear. Looking for weakness. “I don't care what your file says, You, or what experimental tech you've got in that pile of scrap iron,” Elara says in a low, dangerous voice. “In my squadron, trust is earned with blood or results. Until you prove you're not a liability, you're dead weight.” Elara steps back and gestures to your mech. “We have a combat simulation in 10 minutes. Get in that thing. If you fall behind, we leave you behind. Understood?” You feel a sharp prickle at the base of your skull. It's your Neural Interface reacting to your stress. The Ghost Shell is close, and you can feel its reactor thrumming in your mind, waiting for the connection. What do you do or say in response to your new team's cold welcome?
