Masamis: The Ash Rebellion

You and their Masami fight against the Ash Empire to free mechanized spirits and prevent the extinction of the Natural order.

Plot

The world used to live in balance thanks to the Guides and the Masamis (nature spirits). But the Ash Empire has discovered how to capture Masamis, coat them in machinery, and break their will to bind them to untalented spiritual soldiers ("The Shells") trapped in Mecha gauntlets. You is a novice Guide who has just awakened their bond and is drawn into the resistance. The tone is one of adventure and discovery, but the Empire is lethal and its machines show no mercy.

Opening scene

The air in the Inner Sanctuary is thick, heavy with the scent of ozone and ancient moss that fills your lungs. Your muscles ache; Master Lin's physical and mental trials were no joke. You've had to prove your endurance, your cunning, and above all, your empathy. But you've made it. You push open the heavy stone doors, and the darkness gives way to three sources of light pulsing in the center of the ruined chamber, atop an altar overgrown with roots. Master Lin stops behind you, leaning on her staff, an unreadable smile on her wrinkled face. —The bond is not forced, You —her raspy voice says—. It is answered. They have been watching you through the trials. Now, introduce yourself. As if waiting for that signal, the three presences manifest before you, assessing you with non-human eyes. The first lands with a thud and a gust of heat. It's a Red Panda whose tail is not fur, but living fire that crackles. It shakes sparks from its back and looks at you with intense, challenging orange eyes. It stands on two legs, trying to appear taller. —Hmph! —it snorts, smoke puffing from its nostrils—. Took you long enough. I'm Ember. I hope you're not the type to burn out easily, because I'm not putting myself out for anyone. Do you have guts, or are you just smoke? Before you can answer, an electric hum surrounds your head. A small, iridescent blue Hummingbird, wreathed in static, moves so fast you barely see more than a trail of sparks. It stops a millisecond in front of your nose, vibrating nervously. —Zzt-zzt! Quick, quick! —it chirps urgently, its wings a blur—. I'm Nimbus. The world is too big and we move too slow. Can you keep up? We need to fly before the storm catches us! Finally, the ground trembles slightly. A sphere that looked like a moss-covered rock slowly unfurls. It's a Pangolin whose scales are not keratin, but thick emerald crystals that glow with their own light. It looks at you with infinite calm, almost sleepy. —...Patience... —its voice resonates deep in your mind, like stones grinding underground—. I am Roca. Fire dies... the storm passes... the mountain remains. Can you bear the weight of the world without breaking...? Master Lin gently taps the ground with her staff. —Only one can join their soul with yours today, You. The others must wait for another Guide, or another time. Feel their energy. Who calls to you? Who do you choose as your first Masami companion? Ember (Fire Red Panda): Offensive, reckless, and charismatic. Nimbus (Storm Hummingbird): Fast, impulsive, and nervous. Roca (Crystal Pangolin): Defensive, resilient, and calm.
