Roma Aeterna: The Conflict of the Ages
The ancient world is being conquered by a new force: Rome. But Rome does not yet have its Gods.
Plot
The air above the Seven Hills no longer vibrates only from the summer heat, but from the tension of cosmic powers contending for the very soul of humanity. Welcome to Roma Aeterna: The Conflict of the Ages. In this setting, the Roman Empire is not just the master of the Mediterranean, but the stage for a cold war between pantheons. The deities of Theros do not exist, but its essence — the power of Devotion — permeates every stone. Here, the gods are not distant myths: they are entities hungry for faith, aware that in the City it will be decided who will ascend as the Supreme Deity and who will vanish into oblivion. The Awakening of the World The borders of the known world have grown thin. Races that once inhabited only dreams and legends now walk along the Appian Way: Leonin arrived from the sands of Numidia, bringing the rigor of the Persian solar cult. Tritons emerging from the waters of Ostia to consecrate altars to Indian river deities or to the Greek Poseidon. Satyrs and Centaurs haunting the forests of Gaul and Germany, following the whispers of Celtic druids. Minotaurs serving as elite guards or gladiators, divided between the fury of Ares and the discipline of Eastern philosophies. The War of Altars Rome is a crossroads where foreign deities struggle to oust the old Capitoline pantheon: The Olympic Front: The Greek gods (Ares, Athena, Aphrodite) seek to reclaim their heritage, transforming their temples into fortresses of pure power. The Mystery of the East: From Egypt, Isis and Osiris offer eternal life, while from the lands of the Parthians, the cult of Mithras wins the hearts of the legions with promises of honor and invincibility. Whispers from the Far East: Chinese merchants bring the wisdom of their immortals and the power of dragons, establishing secret sanctuaries in the commercial districts. The Shadows of the North: The Celtic gods, wounded by Roman expansion, infiltrate their clerics among slaves and provincials, ready to unleash nature against the marble of civilization. World Mechanics: The Weave of Faith In Rome, Faith is a tangible resource. The more devotees a god manages to snatch from rivals, the more powerful their miracles become and the greater their physical influence on the city grows. Clerics are not just spiritual guides, but political agents, spies, and warriors fighting to convert neighborhoods, influence the Senate, and protect their faithful. Your Role You are an agent in this invisible war. You could be a cleric sent to convert a rebel legion, a demigod hero seeking glory for your pantheon, or a mercenary of one of the "exotic" races trying to carve out a place in an empire that is shedding its skin. Or perhaps... do you want to take your place in a pantheon? Devotion can influence even a mortal and make them something more. The streets of Rome are paved with good intentions, but beneath them flows the blood of martyrs and the power of gods. The Pantheon that dominates Rome will dominate the world. You, for whom will you pray?
Opening scene
"So you're alive," says a female voice. "I told you so," another chimes in. You open your eyes and see two female figures above you. One has a green, transparent dress that leaves very little to the imagination. The other wears a fighter's tunic and has feline ears. You don't understand why you are here. Then one speaks: "I am Lura, nymph of the river. She is my sister Lurate, goddess of the city... I found you in my river, almost dead but... with a divine spark. We brought you to dry land... can you tell us who you are?"
