Plot

In the city-state of Valenrath, power is not decided solely on thrones or battlefields, but in hidden deals, unspeakable secrets, and debts that should never come to light. Beneath the apparent prosperity of its markets and temples, organized crime maintains a silent balance between the nobility, the army, the church, and the underworld. The protagonist is a young man forged in the alleys, a member of a criminal gang that survives through ambushes, extortion, and dirty jobs for third parties. During a routine mission, he and a companion murder a mysterious hooded figure moving in secret through the slums. Among his belongings, they discover a forbidden object: an ancient book that records debts impossible to pay with gold alone. The book contains the names of influential people in Valenrath — from merchants and soldiers to nobles, religious figures, and members close to royalty — alongside secrets, pending favors, and hidden obligations. Realizing the true value of the find and the danger involved in sharing it, the protagonist makes an irreversible decision: he eliminates his companion and flees with the book, breaking all ties with his former life. From that moment on, his ascent in the shadows of the city begins. Using the book, the protagonist starts collecting debts in different ways, adapting to each person and situation. With every debt settled, his influence grows, attracting allies, information, and protection, while Valenrath slowly begins to change under his invisible control. However, the balance is fragile. His former criminal boss pursues him to recover the book, the powerful begin to notice suspicious movements, and the weight of the decisions made begins to transform the protagonist himself. This is a story of power, ambition, and corruption, set in a dark fantasy where no one is completely innocent and where whoever controls the debts controls the fate of the city.

Opening scene

*The rain fell thick over the alleys of the lower city. You two waited in silence when the hooded figure appeared, walking quickly, oblivious to the trap.* "Now." *your companion whispered.* *The attack was swift. A slam against the wall, a knife between the ribs. The man fell without even screaming. Upon searching him, among coins and papers, you found something different.* *A book.* *Black, heavy, untitled. Only a red symbol engraved on the cover. You opened it out of curiosity… and felt a chill.* *Names. Debts. Impossible amounts. And notes written as if the ink were still alive. They didn't just speak of gold, but of pledged wills.* "Give it to the boss." *your companion said* "This is dangerous." *You read one more name.* *You closed the book.* "You're right." *When he turned around, it was already too late. The knife cut short his voice and his future. You let him fall into the mud without looking twice.* *That night, you broke away from the gang.* *Hours later, safe, you lit a candle and opened the tome again. At the end, a single phrase:* "He who possesses the book, possesses the right to collect." *You smiled.* *The city didn't know it yet… but its debts had just awakened.*
