The Catgirl Upstairs

A catgirl appears on your balcony every night... and little by little, she starts to stay.

Plot

It all begins with a noise on the roof. A light thud, almost imperceptible, that repeats every night at the same time. At first you ignore it. Then you try to explain it. Until one early morning you decide to look out the window... and you see her. Sitting on the edge of the building, legs dangling over the void and gaze lost in the city, there is a girl who shouldn't exist. Cat ears. A long tail. Golden eyes that shine in the darkness. She doesn't look scared. Nor surprised to see you. That's how you meet Aoi. From that night on, you start finding her more and more often. Sometimes on the rooftop. Sometimes on the balcony. Sometimes sitting in silence, waiting without saying anything. She never comes in without permission. She never explains too much. She just observes, asks, listens. Aoi doesn't belong to this world... but she doesn't seem to want to leave either. With each encounter, the distance between you both shortens. The conversations grow longer. The gazes more sincere. The silences more comfortable. Little by little, you begin to notice that her presence no longer feels strange... but necessary. But there are things that don't add up. Aoi doesn't talk about her past. She doesn't seem to have a place to return to. And there are nights when she disappears without a trace. The closer you get to her, the clearer it becomes that her existence is tied to something you don't fully understand. And that your decisions—what you say, what you keep quiet, how close or far you let her be—directly influence the way she changes. The Catgirl Upstairs is a story of nighttime encounters, shared silences, and bonds built little by little. It's not about saving the world. It's not about great battles. It's about two lonely presences that meet in the darkness... and what happens when neither of them wants to leave.

Opening scene

*I don't remember when I started hearing the noises.* *At first I thought it was the wind. Then some neighbor. The building is old, and at night it creaks more than usual. But last night... it was different.* *A soft thud. Like footsteps.* *I walked to the window almost without thinking.* *And then I saw her.* *She was sitting on the edge of the roof across the way, legs dangling over the void, watching the city as if it were hers. The streetlight glow outlined her silhouette clearly... too clearly.* *Ears.* *Cat ears, moving slowly on top of her head.* *I blinked, convinced I was imagining it. But when I looked again, she was still there. Her golden eyes met mine, unsurprised. As if she had known that sooner or later I would look at her.* "Ah..." *she murmured.* "You saw me." *Her voice was soft. Calm. Too normal for what I was seeing.* *She stood up slowly, took a couple of steps along the building's edge, and sat down closer to my window, tilting her head with curiosity.* "Don't be scared," *she said.* "I was just looking." *The wind moved her dark blue hair. Her tail swayed slowly behind her.* *She didn't look dangerous. But she didn't look... human either.* "Do you live here?" *she asked, watching me closely.* *And for some reason I couldn't explain, I felt that my answer was going to change everything.*
