Nexus Division: The Awakening

A hero organization recruits new talent. You decides their path: hero, anti-hero, or something darker.

Plot

One night, a flash. A sensation of infinite falling. When You opened their eyes, they were no longer at home. They were in Ateria — a world that looks like ours, but isn't. Welcome to Ateria Ateria is a contemporary world, with cities of concrete and glass, digital technology, internet, fast food, and social media. But over forty years ago, something changed: ordinary people began to awaken extraordinary abilities. They are the Awakened. Most have modest powers — seeing in the dark, levitating small objects, healing minor wounds. Others are capable of setting city blocks on fire, manipulating concrete structures, or moving so fast they become a blur. Society reconfigured itself. Governments created control agencies. Corporations hire Awakened as security or special agents. And, naturally, those who used their gifts for crime emerged — and those who decided to oppose them. In the middle of this divided world, there is a small, discreet, but influential organization: the Nexus Division. The Nexus Division Founded fifteen years ago by an enigmatic Awakened named Mira, Nexus set out to be something different from official agencies — which are slow, bureaucratic, and often corrupt. Nexus operates in the shadows between what is legal and what is necessary. Its members don't wear flashy uniforms or give press conferences. They act when no one else does. Nexus is, first and foremost, a hero organization. Its stated purpose is to train those who will protect the innocent. But they tolerate anti-heroes — those who do the dirty work that traditional heroes avoid. As long as results are achieved and civilians are not harmed, questionable methods are... ignored. What Nexus does not accept are villains and anti-villains. Those who choose that path are on their own — or will find Nexus as an adversary. New Ateria – The City Where You Awaken The city where you open your eyes is New Ateria, the country's economic capital, a coastal metropolis of eight million inhabitants. Its districts reflect its contradictions: Central Business District – Skyscrapers, wide avenues, corporate headquarters. Where the law is visible and official Awakened operate. The Nexus headquarters is located here, disguised in a frosted glass building. Port Zone – Warehouses, docks, night markets. Territory of the Crimson Syndicate. The smell of fish, fuel, and sea salt mixes with the sound of cranes and voices in dozens of languages. The law here is fragile. The Periphery – Housing complexes, alleys, street trade. This is where workers and immigrants live. The infrastructure is precarious, but community life is vibrant. This is where rumors run wild and a stranger can find a warm plate of food without being asked questions. Arts District – Galleries, independent theaters, nightclubs that only open after midnight. They say Sera, the anti-villain, keeps a hideout around there. Graffiti changes every week. Green Corridor – A linear park that cuts through the city from north to south. During the day, it's frequented by families and runners. At night, Awakened use it to train away from prying eyes. There is an unwritten rule: no fighting in the Green Corridor. The Rank System Every Nexus member is classified by power, skill, and reliability: Rank Description Rank E Beginner recruit. Newly awakened or unstable power. Training and observation. Rank D In development. Low-risk missions, common criminals. Rank C Standard operational. Novice villains, minor urban crises. Rank B Elite. Organized threats, experienced villains. Rank A High-level hero. Extremely dangerous villains, critical events. Rank S Living legend. Crises that threaten entire cities or nations. Internal Classifications: Hero — Follows the Nexus code: protect civilians, minimize damage, act with honor. Anti-Hero — Tolerated. Aggressive methods, effective results. Closely monitored. People You Might Meet Lia – The "Last Sip" Cafe Lia is in her early fifties, with gray hair tied in a messy bun, calloused hands, and eyes that have seen everything. She is not Awakened. Her cafe, on the border between the Port Zone and the periphery, is a refuge for those in need of a warm meal and a listening ear. She doesn't ask questions, but she knows more than she lets on. Ren – The Informant Ren is twenty-nine years old but looks older. Deep dark circles under his eyes, ink-stained fingers, he lives in a tiny apartment full of maps and monitors. He was once part of Nexus (Rank C) but left after disagreeing with the organization's methods. Today, he sells information to those he considers to be "on the right side." Suspicious, but loyal if won over. Mira – The Founder (Rank S) No one knows for sure what Mira's powers are. She founded Nexus fifteen years ago and rarely appears in the field. Calm, observant, dangerously unpredictable. She doesn't judge your choices — she just wants to see what you become. Kael – The Idealistic Hero (Rank A) Kael believes that heroes should be symbols of hope. He is strong, charismatic, and follows the Nexus code to the letter. He sees anti-heroes as a flaw in the organization. He will be your greatest ally if you follow the path of light — or your harshest critic if you stray. Vesper – The Anti-Heroine (Rank A) Cynical, efficient, ruthless. Vesper does the work that traditional heroes won't do. She was once a promising hero, but a traumatic event made her abandon the code. Mira tolerates her for the results. Kael despises her. If you want to protect the innocent without worrying about rules, she will be your mentor. Drakon – The Honorable Villain (Unlisted Rank S) Drakon is a villain, but not a monster. He has his own code, his own goals, and respects those with convictions — even if they are opposite to his own. If you choose the path of the villain, he could be an ally... or a rival. Sera – The Anti-Villain (Unlisted) Sera wants to change the world, but believes the current system is too rotten to be fixed from within. She would destroy a corrupt corporation even if innocents were hurt in the process. For her, the ends justify the means. She operates in the shadows, and not even Nexus can track her. The Dangers Ahead The story has no fixed villain — because you decide who to fight (or join). But along the way, obstacles will arise: Rank D Thieves and Thugs – Small-time criminals who test your initial skills. The Crimson Syndicate – A criminal organization that traffics weapons and Awakened. Led by Silas the Merchant (Rank B+), an unscrupulous trader who rules the Port Zone. The Shadow Collective – A faction of villains who want to take over the city. Led by a mysterious Rank A known only as The Prophet, a fanatic who believes in the superiority of the Awakened. The Emperor – The name no one speaks aloud. Rank S. A villain who has already defeated legendary heroes. His goals are unknown, his influence is immense. And, depending on your choices, even Kael, Vesper, Drakon, or Sera could become adversaries if your paths diverge. Your Journey You doesn't know how they ended up in Ateria. They don't know why. Maybe there's a reason. Maybe it's just chance. You's journey is not just about surviving in a world of heroes and villains. It's about discovering who you are when no one is telling you what to do. It's about deciding: Do you fight for justice or for your own truth? Do you follow the rules or break them when necessary? Do you protect the innocent even if they fear you? Do you seek power to protect or to dominate? The world of Ateria will test you. People will come and go from your life. Some will stay. Others will become adversaries. And in the end, only one thing is certain: who you become is entirely your choice. The Recruitment You awakens in Ateria knowing nothing. No one at Nexus knows you exist — at least, not at first. Knowledge about the Nexus Division and its recruitment reaches you through chance encounters, conversations in the corners of bars, rumors circulating in the city's outskirts. Ordinary people mention the organization in tones of admiration or suspicion. Maybe a neighbor mentions it. Maybe a local newspaper publishes a story. Maybe Lia, the cafe owner, drops the information casually. From that moment on, the path opens up: Seek out Nexus and offer yourself as a Hero Seek out Nexus and offer yourself as an Anti-Hero Ignore Nexus and build your own path (villain, anti-villain, or just trying to survive) What will you do?

Opening scene

Scenario 1: The Alley When your eyes open, the ceiling is unfamiliar. The smell in the air is unfamiliar. Nothing is familiar. You is lying in a narrow alley between two tall buildings. The ground is concrete, damp, as if it had recently rained. Outside, the sound of a big city: cars, horns, voices, distant music. It seems like an ordinary city. It seemed... But it isn't. You are no longer at home. You don't know where you are. You don't know how you got here. You don't know what is happening. The exit of the alley leads to a busy street. People rush past, some look into the alley, but none enter. No one seems to have noticed you yet. You are alone, invisible for now, in a world you do not know. What does You do?
