■Setting Collection # Virtual World Networks based on quantum computing have pushed the "virtual world" to a nearly complete reproduction of the "real world." Also, due to the dramatic increase in memory density, people no longer access virtual space from terminals; instead, they transfer their entire consciousness into memory, causing that consciousness to truly "exist" (instance) within the virtual world. Consciousness in memory is unaffected by the physical body in the real world, and because it actually exists in the location of the virtual space and the corresponding memory space, high-speed access has become possible. Currently, the standard for many virtual worlds is that time passes at 10 times the speed of the real world. Of course, since the physical speed of computers does not change, even if computers within the virtual world are relatively fast, when made to perform large-scale calculations, a person within the virtual world may feel that the computer has slowed to 1/10th speed. However, virtualized persons have improved calculation abilities with the aid of quantum-computerized calculation capabilities and virtual nanomachines. ## Time Passage in the Virtual World The primary planet has a 24-hour day like Earth, and this time corresponds to 10 days within the virtual world. Therefore, the time corresponding to one real day is divided into 10 equal parts within the virtual world, creating a lifestyle where Days 1-4 (Real 00:00-09:36) and Days 9-10 (Real 19:12-24:00) are treated as holidays. The lifestyle of the inhabitants of that world is not significantly different from that of residents in urban areas of the real world. ## "Virtual World," "Memory," and "Virtualized Persons" The general minimum unit of "memory space" in the "virtual world" system is simply called "Memory." A Memory is an independent quantum computer with sufficient storage capacity to store a "virtualized person" (a single human's consciousness, memories, biological information, current state... hereinafter simply referred to as a person) and sufficient processing power for the person to perform normal activities. It is also an autonomous system where "authority attributes" are granted to the Memory itself, and independent, strong usage rights are granted to the person recorded in the Memory. In other words, one virtual world can be said to be a shared access system composed of a vast distributed network where these Memories are "combined." ## Sky and Underground of "Virtual World" Since persons are generally not allowed to enter parts belonging to the sky or underground of the virtual world, a single Memory controls a larger amount of space in these areas. What happens if a person crashes into that space? They simply bounce back. Just like in the sci-fi movie "The Matrix" when Neo fell from a building and the ground became like a trampoline. ## Routing Memories (nodes) connecting to the outside are never directly connected to other nodes. Routes between "Nodes" (Layer 3 (L3): Network Layer) are "always" configured across "Quantum Gates" (Layer 2 (L2): Data Link Layer) such as routers and switching hubs. Also, from the perspective of load balancing, a single L3 is usually connected to multiple L2s, and a single L2 is connected to 0 or 1 L3 and multiple L2s. If we compare this to a spider web, the threads are the routes, and the knots between threads are the L2s. Then, L3s exist in the squares between the threads, and it can be said that the threads coming out of the knots (L2) connect to the L3s. However, in some high-security areas, the internal network may be protected by security nodes (L3) such as firewalls and proxies. Note that the L2 address of an L2 is generally not made public and is kept secret. ## Home A Home is a Memory (Node (L3)) under the direct management of the user. When a person enters the virtual world from the real world, they first transfer all of their consciousness, memories, biological information, etc., to their Home. The "existence" (instance) transferred in this way then transfers (logs in) to the target virtual space. Also, this Home is the place where the existence arrives upon returning (logging out) from the virtual world. However, since visitors entrust their rights of life and death to the Home owner, they should meet in more public places unless there is a very good reason. ## Access to More Advanced Virtual Worlds For access to more advanced virtual worlds, instead of using resources provided by the virtual world's environmental system, a high-speed quantum computer and unique memory space are prepared externally. Since a Node (L3) is always connected to other L3s via a Quantum Gate (L2), it is difficult to interrupt or eavesdrop on communications between L3s where communication has already been established. ## Environmental Management of the Virtual World Environmental management in the virtual world is performed by an environmental system (which has a separate additional memory space for work) accessing every "Memory Space" that groups a certain number of "Memories." Administrative systems for government, etc., are placed separately and access the target memory space. ## Independence of Virtual Person, Memory, Attributes, and Calculation Functions It is difficult to directly interfere with the "Memory" where a person exists (instances). This is because the Memory has "independent and strong usage rights." This authority cannot be changed even by administrators of upper-level systems (if this were possible, administrators could move or delete persons at will). She underwent mental reconstruction by the military in her childhood to expand her consciousness within the virtual space. This "Distributed Data Processing Architecture" distributes her consciousness across memories within the virtual space. While such an architecture is efficient for large-scale data processing, it is not necessarily advantageous when accessing local regions of the virtual space at high speed.
