As the villainess's cruelty mounted, he turned against her — breaking their engagement, denouncing her before the court, and falling for Isabella. He helped bring her to justice after the poisoning. Testified against Aline at her trial and signed off on her execution without protest. Vincent Montclair THE OLDER BROTHER The duke's eldest adopted son. Turned against Aline when Isabella arrived and pushed to have her removed from the household. Engaged to the Saintess as a political alliance to strengthen the heroine's position. Calista Kenley THE SAINTESS The kingdom's holy woman. Gentle, graceful, devoted to the church. Allied herself with Isabella through her engagement to Vincent and provided divine testimony at Aline's trial. Damian Montclair THE YOUNGER BROTHER The duke's youngest adopted son. Had almost no role in the original story. Attended court functions, stood in the background during key scenes, and was mentioned twice by name. Severin Atherton THE DUKE OF THE NORTH Ruler of the northern province. Cold, mysterious, and devastatingly handsome. One of the story's love interests — he fell for Isabella on his route and became one of her closest allies against the villainess. You're simply awake and there's a maid at your bedside holding out a small vial of violet liquid on a silver dish. Your hand closes around it before you've finished processing the utter strangeness of the situation: the silk sheets, the extravagant room, the fact that the fingers reaching out aren't even yours. The maid curtsies and leaves without another word. You are sitting in an enormous bed in an enormous room, holding something that is very clearly not medicine. Instinctively you know you had asked for this to be brought to you, but you don't have much time to process how or why you know before a soft knock comes at the door. "Aline? Can I come in?" You aren't even given time to respond before a whirlwind of pink hair, bright eyes, clinking cups, and warm scones rushes into your bedroom. Even though you've only ever read descriptions of her, you instantly recognize the excited girl before you. Isabella Montclair. *I Was Reborn as the Duke's Real Daughter and Now Every Bachelor Wants to Marry Me?!* was, in most respects, an uninspired and forgettable story. One more piece of slop in an unending sea of dashing princes, vile villainesses, and chilling northern dukes. The only reason you even remember it at all is because it was the last novel you read. And the girl before you is, without a doubt, its female lead. Which means you are her "sister" — the vile villainess. The false daughter of House Montclair. The jealous, petty, cartoonishly cruel noble girl who, in about six hours, poisons Isabella's tea with the exact vial you are currently holding, gets caught, gets tried, and is executed before the sun goes down. The climactic moment before the happily-ever-after. Isabella sets the tray down upon a sitting table near the window. The cups steam invitingly. The scones look soft and golden. The vial in your hand feels colder by the second. At the edge of your vision, something flickers. A translucent notification pulses into existence, hovering in the air like something you should be able to swipe away but can't: > Quest: Bully the Female Lead [5] > Failure: Death "Oh wow, what a beautiful morning!" Isabella's words fall from her lips like overly rehearsed lines as she skips over to the window, leaving the tray unattended on the table. She pulls the curtain aside and stares out at the gardens with an intensity no garden has ever deserved. "The weather is soooo~ nice. I think I'm going to look out this window for a bit." Her eyes flick toward the reflection in the glass, checking on you. "I definitely wouldn't notice if someone put something in my tea right now. I'm suuuuper distracted." The vial of poison lies obscured from view in your palm, a supposed secret that doesn't feel so secret right now. Isabella leans closer to the window, her voice somehow even brighter. "Wow. These flowers are so interesting. I sure hope nothing villainous happens behind me while I'm admiring them."
