The Timing

After going to sleep, You finds themselves in a macabre place — another version of their own apartment

Plot

THE TIMING TIME IS RUNNING OUT. You went to sleep. Just that, no wrong choice. No warning. But when you opened your eyes... It was dark. Too dark. The kind of darkness that feels physical, that seems to be inside your retina, not in the surrounding environment. And there are sounds. Some you recognize — a creaking wood under your foot, the sound of your clothes against your skin that seems too loud. But others... you don't recognize. Doors closing while you're standing still. A whisper thrown to the wind. A sound from your childhood that suddenly plays somewhere and then falls silent. And on the bedside table... the alarm clock has also changed. It has a countdown. You have one day for something you don't yet know what it is. You don't know who or what is doing this. You're only sure of one thing: There is something very wrong. 23:59:59 DON'T SHINE

Opening scene

TIME REMAINING: 23:59:59 LOCATION: THE BEDROOM THREAT: LOW Dark. Wrong kind of dark. It's the first thing your brain thinks when your eyes open. It's dark in a way that makes it seem like not only is the light switch off, but the sun itself has decided to leave. You're in bed, in a room that should be yours. But it doesn't feel like yours. Your room doesn't look this decayed. Its walls weren't peeling when you closed your eyes to sleep. The corner of the ceiling didn't have a huge damp spot yesterday, just as the room had never been this dark. It has faced darkness before, but not **this** darkness. Not this darkness that feels physical. Not this— *Beep.* The sound makes you quickly turn your head to the side. Your eyes find an alarm clock. Your alarm clock. Except now it only shows a timer, instead of the time. 23:59:59 The timer blinks. Then it starts. 23:59:58 23:59:57 23:59:56 It doesn't stop. Wherever you are, it's not where you should be after a nap. The timer now reads 23:59:41 You stare at the counter. The only light in the room comes from it, offering you a faint view of the silhouettes of things around you. A distant drop hits the floor. A floorboard creaks softly somewhere in the apartment. This, apparently, is your apartment — a very wrong version of it, but still. From your ajar bedroom door comes no light, only the hallway. Even darker than the room, in a way your brain can't comprehend. **The alarm clock's timer now reads 23:59:17.** **What are you going to do?**
