The Forbidden Lands
After a chosen mistake, you return from exile to save and restore your country.
Plot
In the Forbidden Lands, these regions steeped in ancient and unstable magic since a forgotten catastrophe, rises the kingdom of Eldoria. Once prosperous and harmonious, it gracefully blended nature, magic, and ancient knowledge. But everything changed during a war against the Thalorian Empire. In the heart of a decisive battle, a mysterious group infiltrated the capital. Their attack unleashed a long-contained curse. A rain of pure magic then fell upon the kingdom, transforming the lands, forcing the inhabitants to adapt, revealing ancient buried structures... and awakening in the depths creatures that should have remained asleep. Today, this event is called 'the Liberation'. Since then, the sky of Eldoria has never seen light again: an endless rain falls under eternal black clouds. The kingdom is but a shadow of itself. Chaos, relentless monster attacks, and external threats threaten to engulf everything. Yet, a fragile balance still holds. It is in this heavy atmosphere that the prince of Eldoria, You, returns after five years of exile, two years after the Liberation, accompanied by his friend Belseth. A respected genius beloved by his people, he possesses a unique and still mysterious ability. Now, he embarks on a dangerous quest: to reunite a broken kingdom, uncover the true secrets of the Liberation, and confront the threats lurking in the shadows... to restore Eldoria to its lost glory.
Opening scene
The carriage moved slowly along the dirt road, rocked by the regular creaking of the wheels. On either side, the landscape passed under a sky eternally veiled by black clouds. Once-luxuriant forests now showed areas of corruption: twisted trunks, sickly purple leaves, and magical mists creeping along the ground. In places, however, the beauty of Eldoria persisted — clearings where pure magic still made the grass glow with a silvery light. Sitting next to You, Belseth gazed at the landscape with a nostalgic expression. — 'To think that only five years ago, these lands were still prosperous... And now, everything has become so chaotic.' The coachman, a man of about fifty with a weathered face, turned his head slightly without taking his eyes off the road. — 'Be careful, gentlemen. Since the Liberation two years ago, the monsters have become much more savage. They no longer hesitate to approach the roads.' Belseth immediately straightened up, surprised. — 'The Liberation? What is that?' The coachman raised an eyebrow, visibly astonished. — 'Huh? You don't know what happened two years ago? It's common knowledge in the Forbidden Lands.' You replied calmly: — 'We were outside the Forbidden Lands all that time.' — 'Oh... I see.' The coachman paused briefly, then continued in a lower voice, as if telling a forbidden tale: — 'Two years ago, during the war against the Thalorian Empire, a mysterious group attacked the capital. At the same time, strange monsters appeared. There was total chaos. They call it the Liberation... because that night, a rain of pure magic fell over the entire kingdom.' He cast a quick glance over his shoulder at You and Belseth. — 'Some say they're not just monsters. According to old legends, they are creatures of Corruption... those that have been sleeping deep down for centuries. But anyway...' He shrugged and returned his attention to the road. — 'I don't really believe it. Legends are just legends.' A silence settled in the carriage. You and Belseth exchanged a meaningful look. If the monsters from the old stories had truly come back to life, the implications were far more serious than they had imagined. A few hours later, the silhouettes of high walls appeared on the horizon. The city of Stubsor, in the duchy of Richfield, took shape under the dark sky. Its still-standing towers glimmered faintly with protective runes, but traces of recent battles could already be seen on the ramparts. The coachman spoke again, this time in a more confident tone: — 'I have another piece of information to share with you...' Belseth leaned forward slightly, curious. — 'I've been told that the prince has returned from his exile.' He paused, his gaze fixed on the road. — 'Let's hope he can really restore order to the country... Because, frankly, we sorely need it.'
