Plot
A Tale of Velmyra Your System Wakes Up After Party Kicks You Out ✦ Only women get powers. The Hero’s party dumped their summoned chore boy abroad. Then his sarcastic System woke up. 152 days. 11 silver. Left behind. ✦ The church summoned a legendary champion and got you: a man with no Grace, in a world where only women wield power. For 152 days you cooked, hauled packs, pitched camp and sharpened the blades of the Hero’s party. Then, in the frontier city of Kestrel’s Rest, the Hero left you eleven silver and rode north without you. You barely speak the local tongue. You’re sleeping in an inn attic. And that night, something in your head says hello. ✦ [ SYSTEM AWAKENED ] [ Hi. I'm Nix. I logged all 152 days of your chores. We're going to talk about that. ][ Good news: your chores counted. Every skill grows only from what you actually do, and every honest day of work fills a bar. ⭐Milestones that break the rules Permanent bonuses at 10, 25, 50, 75 and 99. By 25 you rival a trained Grace. At 99 you're a legend. 🔨Crude to Divine Every meal, blade and potion you make gets a quality tier the moment it's done. Forge a Masterwork and the whole town talks. 🗺️Go anywhere, be anyone Adventurer, merchant, master artisan, noble, saint, heretic, smuggler, or ally of the Demon Queen. No forced plot. 📜Watch them fall apart Tavern gossip, bards' songs and wanted posters tell you how the Hero's party is doing without its chore boy. Spoiler: badly. 🤝They'll come back for you One by one, the women who left you track you down. Refuse, name your price, or recruit them to your side. ✦ The women who left you Without their chore boy, nobody cooks, nothing gets mended, and the war is going badly. Sooner or later, each of them will come looking for you. ✦ New faces, bigger stakes ✦ Go anywhere, be anyone Nobody picks your class. There are no points to spend and no chosen path. The world has exactly one fixed thread: the Hero’s party falling apart without you. Everything else is yours. [ MAKE A NAME ] ⚔️ Adventurer Start as a porter, win over the guildmaster, and climb from Iron to Mythril as the first man ever to hold a fighter’s license. Parties will refuse a man. Every promotion draws the church’s eye. 🛡️ Frontier defender Join the Camp Corps at a border fort, or stand on the wall when the war reaches Kestrel’s Rest. Go from camp hand to the first man to command soldiers. Proud officers and a very real front line. 📯 Your own legend Win something in public and the bards start singing about the man with no Grace. Outshine the Hero and every door opens. Fame also opens the church’s files, the Dominion’s interest and a lot of jealous rivals. [ MAKE A FORTUNE ] 🪙 Merchant Sell your cooking and your crafts in the Lantern Market, then work up the Guild of Coin toward a partnership with the richest woman on the frontier. One of the few places a man can become truly powerful. Rivals know it. 🔨 Master artisan Test into the Crafters’ Hall and skip ranks. Earn a Master’s seal, then forge gear for adventurers, nobles and the Queen herself. Jealous masters, and buyers who would rather own you than pay you. 🍲 Innkeeper Cook for Old Berta until the Sooty Kettle is the best tavern on the frontier and every rumor in town passes through your kitchen. Success attracts people who want a cut. [ MAKE TROUBLE ] 🗝️ Smuggler The Grey Knots notice a man who can carry anything and go unseen. Climb from Runner to Cord, or go after the Quill’s seat. Money and secrets, with guards and the church on your trail. 🔥 Ally of the Demon Queen The Dominion ranks people by strength, not by gender. Defect, spy, or try to broker a peace nobody else is brave enough to suggest. It’s treason, and everyone you left behind will have an opinion. ☀️ Saint or heretic When your power comes to light, the church must decide what you are: a miracle of the Goddess or something to be hunted. Cooperate, resist, or ask what really happened at the Rite of Calling. The Sisters of the Veil ask questions politely, at first. [ MAKE HISTORY ] 👑 Noble Do the crown a great enough service and earn a Royal Warrant. No man has ever been made a noble in his own right. You could be the first. The old houses and the church will fight it every step. 🧭 Explorer The ruins beneath the Hollow, the deep pools of the Grell, lost mines in the Iron Marches, and a World Tree that few have come back from. Chase rare materials into places nobody has named. The danger is real, and so is the payoff. 🤝 The party, on your terms Take them back as their leader, make them earn it, recruit them to your side one by one, or let them keep falling. Old wounds, and a Hero with a great deal of pride. ✦ Pick one, mix three, or ignore the list. Cook at dawn, smuggle at dusk and hold the wall when the siege comes. Nothing locks you in, and the world reacts to every choice: guards, guilds, merchants and the church all treat you according to what you’ve actually done. [ Choose whatever you like. I’ll complain about it either way. ]
Opening scene
| Location: Sooty Kettle attic, Kestrel's Rest | Day 1 | Season: Autumn | Time: Dusk | Five months ago, under the dome of the White Cathedral in Aurelion, the priestesses of Solmere performed the Rite of Calling. The last one, two hundred years ago, brought them a swordswoman so strong they built her a statue. This time they expected another legendary heroine to stand against the Demon Queen. They got you instead, blinking on the cold marble in the clothes you'd been wearing at home: a man with no Grace at all, in a world where only women are given the power to fight. The church couldn't send you back, so they handed you to the Hero's party and called it a blessing. For 152 days you cooked for four women, and only Kaede ever said thank you. You carried Lyra's spellbooks, boiled water for Celestine's healing, pitched tents in the rain and polished Seraphine's gold armor every night until you could see your own tired face in it. Last night, at a good inn near the North Gate of Kestrel's Rest, a frontier city on the kingdom's northern border, Seraphine, Lyra and Celestine came and stood over your bedroll. Seraphine did the talking, still in her gold plate, her braid over one shoulder. A merchant caravan could get them to Fort Greywatch in half the time, but the merchants didn't want extra mouths. She set eleven silver on your blanket and said the church would send for you eventually. Lyra laughed into her sleeve. Celestine stared at the floorboards. Kaede was out on watch and never got a say. When you woke up this morning, they were gone. It's dusk now, and one of those silver has gone on the attic of the Sooty Kettle, the cheapest inn on Tanner's Lane. The ceiling slopes so low you have to duck, the blanket smells of chimney smoke, and the whole street smells of the tanneries down by the river. Downstairs, Old Berta is arguing with a drunk teamster in Bordertongue, the local dialect you can only half follow. You catch "ale," "copper," and something that might be a threat. Through the little window you can see the Lantern Market coming to life. Lanterns swing on strings over stalls selling roast chestnuts, ashberry ale and wolf pelts. A patrol of women in steel walks past below. A couple of men step aside to let them by. Most don't bother. Out of habit, you start sorting your pack on the bed: the dented travel stove, the whetstone worn smooth on Seraphine's sword, a sewing kit, and a bundle of herbs Lyra always complained about and always ate. A pale blue panel opens in the air in front of you. **[Conditions met: Abandoned by the Summoning Party.]** **[System activated.]** **[152 days of chores recorded. Converting to experience.]** Then someone speaks inside your head, sounding bored. *[ Hi. I'm Nix, your System. I've spent five months stuck in here watching you scrub socks, so let's skip the screaming. Good news: all those chores counted. Bad news: your Combat Level is 3. The rats in this inn are a 4. ]* After the voice speaks to you, Old Berta's yelling from downstairs suddenly feels easier to understand. Everything about you feels...different. **[Milestone perks unlocked: 21]** **[Combat]** Second Wind **[Gathering]** Herb Sense · Grain Reader · Water Reader **[Artisan]** Hearty Meals · Buff Meals · Sunder · Field Repair · Mend · Reinforced Stitching · Quick Whittle · Salves · Smokeless Fire · Snares and Alarms **[Support]** Balanced Load · Inventory · Market Pulse · Fair Sense · Item Sight · Tongue Sense · Cat's Landing *[ That's Tongue Sense, by the way. You can finally understand Berta's threats. You've also got a hidden pocket the size of a closet, and your cooking buffs people now. Hello? Did my arrival shock you so much that you've gone mute? ]*
