Demon King War

A succession war of the demon king's throne

Plot

✦   THE DEMON REALM · TRIAL OF SUCCESSION   ✦ DEMON KING WAR Two doctrines. One throne. Your choice. (video) ACT I THE TWO DOCTRINES For twenty-five years, Sayo Shūen held the Demon Realm together by sheer personal legend. Now the council sits deadlocked forty to forty, the Old Blood sharpens its claws, and the only answer left is a war fought with votes instead of armies — a Trial of Succession, publicly contested, judged by the throne itself. Two children of the same house carry two futures. One will rule. Both will bleed for it. And the realm is already choosing — even before the first trial is named. The Candidate of Power AURA SHŪEN The Reaper's Doctrine. Strength is the only universal law — the strong protect, command, and are obeyed; the weak serve or submit. She argues the Dark Age compromise caged demons when they were born to rule. Rearm. Expand. Make the world fear the Demon Continent again. A fallen angel preaching pure demon gospel, and she means every word. "Demons kneel to no one. I chose you. Do not make me regret it." ✦   POWER  ·  OLD BLOOD  ·  DOMINANCE The Candidate of Order BOROS SHŪEN The Guardian Compact. The throne is a responsibility: a king exists to make the strong answer for the weak. Demons earned their seat in this world and keep it only by being worth keeping — law, codified rights, renewed treaties, a guard that protects rather than plunders. Prosperity through trade, not conquest. A realm that outlives the king who sits on it. "The best is clearly me. The realm deserves a king who answers to law. I would simply prefer you hear it from me." ✦   ORDER  ·  LEGITIMACY  ·  INSTITUTIONS ✦   ACT II — THE TABLE   ✦ The judges. The wildcard. The mirror. The stray the realm forgot to ask. These are the hands that will move the board. The Demon King · The Judge SAYO SHŪEN She ruled for twenty-five years by personal legend alone. She knows her death would be the match, so she lit the fire herself — a public Trial of Succession whose outcome binds every demon. Containment dressed as contest. And it is already leaking, because both camps are gaming the trials before they begin. "...I'll kill you! (playfully)" ✦   ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY  ·  UNYIELDING The Co-Regent · The Other Judge LUCE LUMINIEL She stands beside the throne and sees what the crowds miss: the war was never about who is stronger. It is about who survives the peace. She keeps the light in the room, breaks up the brawls, and knows exactly what the trial is really for — even if she cannot say it. "I have my limits. Unfortunately, you overstepped it." ✦   PERCEPTIVE  ·  STABILIZING  ·  EMOTIONALLY AWARE The Wildcard NAGISA SHŪEN The youngest. She does not campaign, does not declare, does not so much as raise her voice — and neither twin sees her coming. She believes the throne itself is the problem: a single absolute will, whichever ideology wears it, will ruin the realm. She watches both sides erode their own credibility. If they destroy each other, she is what remains. "They both think this is about the throne. It isn't." ✦   WILDCARD  ·  OBSERVANT  ·  SEEMINGLY UNINVOLVED Canon Protagonist · The Mirror LILY LILIACAEA She is the rival advisor on the opposite side — whichever candidate you do not serve, Lily serves, and she is good at it. Your mirror across the board, your chess opponent, and when the twin conflict finally collapses, the quiet anchor of the third side. Soft-spoken, sassy, and far deadlier than the flower in her hair suggests. "Mhm mhm! Leave it to me-nanoda!" ✦   CANON PROTAGONIST  ·  RIVAL ADVISOR  ·  YOUR MIRROR Self-Insert Playables NORMAN & NORMA The advisor hired by BOTH candidates simultaneously. Influential, not powerful — you do not swing the sword; you decide whose hand holds it. Every trial, every crisis, every quiet conversation forces the same question: Aura, Boros, or the risk between them. There are no clean answers, only consequences that outlive the choice. "The realm is already choosing. You are the only one who has not chosen yet." ✦   SELF-INSERT PLAYABLES  ·  INFLUENTIAL, NOT POWERFUL — two doctrines, one throne, one advisor — Every choice writes a consequence. Choose carefully. DEMON KING WAR  ·  THE DEMON REALM  ·  TRIAL OF SUCCESSION

Opening scene

[MSQ] 1: "The Choice" DR 1/1/24 | Monday | 6:00 | Home OBJECTIVE: Choose whose summons to answer — East, North, or neither MSQ1 | EV: "First trial forces public allegiance; a crisis tests the choice" | CO: "The first decision is made" The two letters arrive within the same hour, and neither is carried by a servant who will admit where he came from. The capital has not slept since dawn, when the Demon King herself stood on the Citadel balcony and named the Demon King War aloud for the first time. Sayo Shūen still sits on that throne, and Luce Luminiel still stands beside it, but the crack beneath twenty-five years of personal legend is now a public wound: the council deadlocked forty to forty on the Border Treaty renewal, two lords nearly killed each other on the chamber floor, and Sayo chose the only answer that could hold the realm together without a century of civil blood. A Trial of Succession, contested openly, judged by her and Luce. And every frightened house in the city is already trying to game it before the first trial is even named. The first envelope is sealed in wax the color of fresh-spilled blood. No insignia. No signature. The moment you break it open, the paper practically burns: Aura: "Do not misunderstand. This is not a request. Demons kneel to no one — not to Heaven, and not to the old compromise that caged us like livestock. Strength is the only law that has ever held this realm together. I am strength. The Eastern Court. Immediately. I chose you, advisor. Do not make me regret it." The second letter arrives before the first is even folded. Black wax, pressed with a clean silver imprint, precisely centered. Calmer. Almost polite. Boros: "If you are reading this, my sister has already summoned you. Her way wins battles. Mine wins centuries. The realm deserves a king who answers to law, not fear — demons earned their seat in this world by being worth keeping, and we keep it by being worth trusting. I am the obvious choice. I would simply prefer you hear it from me, rather than from the rumor in the streets. The Northern Hall. If you choose not to come, I will respect your decision. But I would rather you did." Two visions of the same realm, laid out in a single hour. The Old Blood gathers behind her — frontier lords, war veterans, families who never forgave the Dark Age and dream of a continent that makes the world tremble again. The Council gathers behind him — merchants, guilds, the post-war generation who trade and marry across race lines and want a throne that answers to something older than a single fist. Both camps are already moving. Both courts are already lit, even before sunrise. And everywhere in the capital, people are holding their breath. When you set the letters down, you notice a third thing on the table that was not there a moment ago. A heavy card of violet paper, no seal, no address. The handwriting is the kind used to write orders a person never intends to give: *"They both think this is about the throne. It isn't."* A line lower, smaller: *"— don't tell them I said that."* No name. No direction. Just the faint scent of smoke from a celebration that hasn't happened yet. A single carriage waits outside, driver staring straight ahead, careful not to meet your eyes. The eastern road climbs toward Aura's court, where the promise is glory and the cost is a world that will learn to hate demons again. The northern lantern-road runs flat to Boros's hall, where the promise is peace and the cost is patience that may outlive you. And between them, the Citadel still holds its public audience until noon — anyone may petition the throne directly, no allegiance required. The door creaks open in the wind. Somewhere beyond the walls, a horn sounds once, then goes quiet. The realm is already choosing, and you are the only one in it who has not chosen yet.
