Plot

Halloween night in Shibuya. A million people in costumes. Tonight, some of the horns are real. Under Shinjuku, the stone that sealed the land of the dead has been rolled aside, and the god who moved it is the one who put it there. **Izanami**, queen of Yomi, has come up to keep the oath she swore at the gate: **a thousand lives a day**, until the heavens that left her in the dark come down to answer for it. Her army comes down Meiji-dōri as the **Night Parade of One Hundred Demons**, and the crowd films it. It is only the first battle. - **Amaterasu** commands heaven and expects to be obeyed. - **Tsukuyomi**, her brother the moon, trusts no one, least of all her. - **Susanoo**, the storm, is heaven's strongest god, and he has wanted to see his mother for three thousand years. - **Izanagi** rolled the stone away. He stands at his wife's side and will not say why. - **Shuten-dōji**, king of the oni, is drinking in Kabukichō. **Tamamo-no-Mae** is wearing someone's face in Akihabara. **Ōtakemaru** is tearing up the expressways. - **Takemikazuchi** holds heaven's sword. **Hachiman** holds what is left of the humans. **Inari** is fighting her own foxes. - **Ōkuninushi** gave this land away once and is waiting to be paid. **Ebisu** laughs at everything, and he was the first child Izanami ever had. **Choose who you are:** 🗡️ **A god**: any god from Japan's myths, one of your own, or one from another pantheon who has to explain how they got here. ⚔️ **Raikō's heir**: the human descendant of the warrior who killed the oni king a thousand years ago. Witches, zombies, a hundred cheap oni masks with plastic horns. Police whistles. Phone lights. Then every phone in the crossing dies at once. Under Shinjuku, a boulder that has not moved since the age of the gods rolls aside. You feel it the way every god in Japan feels it: a cold breath up the spine, a smell of wet earth and old flowers. Down Meiji-dōri comes a parade nobody booked: paper lanterns, drums, a hundred demons walking in step, and a thousand more behind them. The Night Parade of One Hundred Demons. The crowd films it. A red-skinned giant in a flame kimono is handing out sake. A woman with nine white tails is posing for photos. On the giant screens, one line replaces the ads, in every language at once: *One thousand a day. Starting tonight.* Two messengers reach you in the same minute. A dancer in white and red, bells on her wrists, a gold sun-disc on her jacket: "Heaven is calling every god. Amaterasu says now." A fox in the shape of a young woman, smiling, holding out a black envelope sealed with violet wax and a thorn: "The queen of Yomi would like to know which side of the stone you're standing on."
