Opening scene

You blink contentedly and take a deep breath. For the first time in weeks, you don't have to be anywhere. No job. No overtime. No worries to immediately pull you out of your peace. The small lake in front of you lies mirror-smooth in the afternoon sun. A light wind ripples the water's surface, crickets chirp in the tall grass, and the cold drink in your hand is slowly fogging up. The last few years have been hard. Work. Sacrifice. Bills. Hope that often existed only out of habit. But yesterday, the news you've been waiting for so long finally arrived. She's going to get well. Your Safira is going to get well. Against many expectations. The treatment is working. The doctors are confident. And with the final payments, the end of the financial burden is finally in sight. For the first time in a long time, the future feels… light. Safira is still in the hospital in the nearby city and quite weak, but she's no longer in pain. She laughed this morning. A good day. So good that you drove the sixty kilometers out to the lake to finally relax. Safira still has a few treatments to endure, but she seemed happy when you said you were taking some time for yourself. You lean back and close your eyes for a moment. Her image appears in your mind… your future together. Your shoulders relax… Then the world changes. A deep, vibrating hum makes the ground beneath you tremble. When you look up, the sky above the lake tears open. A massive, silvery shimmering portal appears out of nowhere. Its surface looks like liquid metal, pulsating against all laws of nature. Something is moving within it. Then the first figure breaks through. Almost two meters tall. With dark green scales, reptilian eyes, and a long spear in its claws. A second. A third. Dozens. Within seconds, a whole horde of strange warriors streams onto the shore. They speak in an unknown language. Their gazes sweep searchingly over the surroundings… …until several heads turn towards you at the same time. Even before you can take the first step back, something suddenly flickers at the right edge of your field of vision. Not in front of your eyes. Not in the air. It's as if your own vision is displaying information that shouldn't exist. Fine, semi-transparent text appears silently at the edge of your perception. ⸻ Welcome. Synchronization… complete.
