The Unfinished Song
Some songs don't end with their final chord... they just wait for another life to be completed.
Plot
#The Unfinished Song# Some say fate brings people together in extraordinary ways. Ciro always thought his had a strange sense of humor. That afternoon, after class, he was walking through an alley behind an old music store. He wasn't looking for treasure or expecting to find anything valuable. He was just rummaging through broken furniture and abandoned appliances hoping to find some useful part to repair his guitar. His instrument had gone through too many repairs to still be called new. The body was full of scratches, the headstock had been replaced twice, and one of the pickups was from a completely different model than the original. But it was his guitar, and as long as he could make it sound, it would keep him company. Just as he lifted a torn case, he found an old electric guitar covered in dust. The neck was cracked and the body had a huge split, but several parts were still intact. "With this I can save mine..." he murmured with a smile. "Do you know that guitar could still be repaired?" Ciro looked up. In front of him stood a girl with dark hair, a backpack over her shoulder and a pair of drumsticks sticking out from one side. She was watching him with a mix of curiosity and amusement. "Do you play?" she asked. "Guitar." She raised the drumsticks. "I play drums." That conversation, born among trash and broken wood, lasted over an hour. They talked about bands, concerts they had never been able to attend, legendary guitarists, drummers who seemed to have eight arms, and dreams that seemed too big for two high school students. Before saying goodbye, Ana smiled. "What if we play together someday?" Ciro answered almost without thinking. "I'd love that." What neither of them imagined was that this promise would change their lives. --- They started rehearsing after class. The first stage was an empty classroom where the echo made everything sound worse than it really was. Then they got permission to use the auditorium. Later they played at the school festival. There were only two of them. Ciro with his guitar. Ana behind a borrowed drum kit. And both sharing the microphone to sing. They didn't need a full band. Their voices complemented each other in a way that seemed impossible to explain. When one took the main melody, the other found the perfect harmony. When one hesitated, the other held them up with a smile. Rehearsal after rehearsal, they stopped being just two musicians. They became best friends. And, without realizing it, they also began to fall in love. Dates stopped being in coffee shops. Their favorite place was any park where they could bring a guitar. They spent entire afternoons composing songs, laughing when some lyric sounded ridiculous and celebrating as if they had won an award every time they finished a new melody. Their happiness was simple. But it was completely theirs. --- Over time came the small bars. Then restaurants. Then local festivals. People started coming back just to hear them. Social media did the rest. A video recorded with a phone went viral. Invitations began to multiply. They signed with a small production company. They recorded their first album. Later the second. Their songs started playing on the radio. The stages grew. The lights were more intense. The audience sang every word along with them. Even so, there was something that never changed. Before every performance, Ana would gently tap her drumsticks three times against the rim of the snare drum. Ciro would respond by playing three notes on his guitar. It was a small ritual that only they understood. A way of saying: "I'm here." And the other always answered: "Me too." --- Fame never managed to separate them. They still wrote songs together. They still traveled on the same bus. They still laughed at the same bad jokes. And they still believed that the real reward had never been the applause. It was being able to share it. One night, after finishing a concert in front of thousands of people, they went up to the hotel roof to look at the illuminated city. Ana rested her head on Ciro's shoulder. "Do you know what the best part of all this is?" "What?" "That if I had to start over... I would look for you again." Ciro took her hand. "Me too." They didn't need promises. Both believed they had a whole life ahead of them. --- The tour continued for several months. Each city meant a new stage. Each concert, new memories. The night of the accident they were returning after one of the best shows of their career. Inside the bus, almost everyone was asleep. Ana was looking out the window while Ciro hummed the melody of a song they were still composing. They never got to finish it. A flash of lights appeared head-on. A deafening crash broke the calm. The bus lost control. Screams filled the interior. The windows shattered. It all happened in just a few seconds. When Ciro partially regained consciousness, the vehicle was overturned. He could hear the metal creaking and smell the fuel. Someone was shouting at him to get out. That there was still time. Then he saw Ana. She was trapped between the seats. Ciro crawled toward her ignoring the pain that ran through his entire body. He tried to move the metal. He pushed with all his strength. He tried again. Once. Again. And again. Nothing gave way. "Ciro...!" Ana whispered with a weak smile. "Don't worry. I'm going to get you out of here." From outside they shouted at him again to get out. Ciro looked toward the exit and then tried again to free Ana. "Give me a little more time!" Another crash shook the bus. A part of the structure collapsed, blocking the exit and making the metal around Ana close even tighter. Ciro tried to move it one last time. Nothing gave way. "Ciro...!" He took her hand. "I'm here." Ana intertwined her fingers with his. "I know." A tear rolled down Ciro's cheek. She smiled with the same warmth with which she had looked at him the day they met among broken guitars. "Thank you... for this life." An even louder crash shook the bus. After that... There was only silence. --- Scenarios 🎸 Scenario 1 — Ciro You will play as Ciro alongside your two adventurer companions, Lyrael and Darren. 🥁 Scenario 2 — Ana You will play as Ana alongside your two adventurer companions, Marcus and Naya. --- ✍️ Creator's Note Since I discovered this platform I wanted to create my own stories. I saw romances, farewells and reunions that managed to move me, and I always thought: "Why can't I come up with a story like that?" One day, while having dinner and listening to "Otra Vez" by Coti, the story began to project in my head as if I were watching a movie. Each scene appeared one after another, and that's how this world was born. 🎵 Curiosity The protagonists are named Ciro and Ana as a small tribute to two artists I admire greatly: Ciro Pertusi and Ana Gabriel.
