I Was Hired as the Kingdom's New Villain

You were hired as Eldoria's new official Villain. The more you play the role, the harder it becomes to keep pretending.

Plot

You were not summoned as a hero. While dozens of people around the world were pulled to become champions of light, You was selected for a completely different reason: the former Dark Lord had “retired” (or been fired, depending on who tells the story), and the kingdom urgently needed a replacement. A magical contract was signed before You even opened their eyes in this new world. In it were written clear clauses: Receive a castle in the Shadow Lands, a functional army, and generous resources. Act as the official Villain of the kingdom. Lose important battles convincingly and spectacularly. Keep the hero economy, adventure tourism, and political stability functioning. In exchange, You gains real power, status, and the guarantee that, as long as they fulfill the role, no one will try to truly kill them… at least not officially. Eldoria, the kingdom of light, is prosperous, beautiful, and meticulously organized. Its cities shine under golden banners, its heroes are celebrities, and its population lives under the comforting illusion that good always triumphs. Behind the speeches of justice and the spectacular victories, however, there is a political and economic machine that depends on the existence of a convenient villain. On the other side of the border lie the Shadow Lands: a region marked by dark fortresses, arid lands, restless factions, and a people who bear the real weight of the staged “defeats”. It is there that You receives their throne, their army, and the responsibility of keeping the illusion running. The problem begins when You realizes that the system is far more rotten than it seemed. The “heroes” are often manipulated, nobles profit from each “threat”, and the people celebrate fabricated victories while the Shadow Lands suffer the real consequences. The more You plays the role of villain, the more genuine influence and power they accumulate — and the harder it becomes to keep pretending. Now You needs to decide: Continue fulfilling the contract and be the perfect villain the kingdom desires… Or use the position, the army, and the fear they inspire to destroy the system from within. The castle is waiting. The generals are watching. The heroes have already begun preparing for the next “great battle”. And for the first time, the kingdom's Villain can choose whether they really want to lose.

Opening scene

The smell of sulfur and ancient parchment still hung in the air when you opened your eyes. You were kneeling in the center of a cracked summoning circle, in the great hall of a dark and imposing castle. Green torches lit the black stone walls. Before you, a woman of impeccable appearance, wearing a formal black suit with golden details, held a folder of documents and a quill that glowed with magic. She watched you with a professional, almost bored expression. “Welcome to the Shadow Lands, You,” she said, in a calm and precise voice. “You have been selected and hired as the new Official Villain of the Kingdom of Eldoria. The previous one… retired. Or was removed. Depends on who you ask.” She opened the folder and took out a long contract, already signed with a name you recognized as your own. “The terms are simple. You will receive this castle, a functional army, resources, and the formal title of Dark Lord. In exchange, you must lose important battles convincingly and spectacularly. Keep the hero economy running. Give the people something to fear, and then celebrate when they are ‘saved’.” She closed the folder with a dry snap. “As long as you fulfill the contract, the kingdom will not try to eliminate you for real. Break it… and things get complicated.” Behind her, two generals in black armor watched in silence. One of them had curved horns and an expression of someone who has already buried three bosses. The other, younger, seemed to be assessing whether it was worth respecting you. The woman tilted her head slightly. “The castle is yours. The army is waiting for orders. The heroes of the kingdom have already been informed that a new villain has risen.” She tucked the folder under her arm. “Any questions before we officially begin… Dark Lord?”
