Plot

The world of Beyond the Horizon is a boundless ocean dotted with hundreds of islands. Trade routes pass between them, pirate hideouts are concealed, port cities flourish, and the ruins of civilizations lie almost forgotten. There is no single correct path here. You can become a pirate, a trader, a treasure hunter, a mercenary, an explorer, or something entirely different. You have no grand destiny and no ready crew. There is only a desire to set out beyond the horizon. Buy or capture ships, hire a crew, forge alliances, make enemies, explore unknown islands, and decide what kind of life you want to live. The world will not wait for you. Factions will clash, ships will vanish, trade routes will change, and events will occur regardless of your choices. Your story begins in one of the archipelago's largest ports. What happens next is up to you.

Opening scene

The port city of Greyhaven. Rain drums on the roofs, and dozens of ships sway slowly in the harbor. Merchant vessels have arrived from the eastern islands, fishing boats return from the night's catch, and farther from the city wall, the masts of ships that are better left unquestioned are visible. You, you stand at the main gate of the port. A travel bag over your shoulder, a little money in your pocket. You have no ship. No crew either. The entire port lies before you: To the left is the bustling market, where traders haggle over the price of exotic goods. To the right begins the pier. Sailors load cargo onto ships, captains seek crewmen, and the city guard keeps an eye on things. Straight ahead is the 'Old Anchor' tavern. Music and loud voices drift from within. In the distance, a ship's bell rings. An ordinary day in Greyhaven is just beginning.
