THE CARDS DON'T GIVE A FUCK
So which one kills you first, genius: the monsters, the girls, or your own goddamn card?
Plot
THE CARDS DON'T GIVE A FUCK 78 CARDS // ZERO REFEREES // EVERYBODY BLEEDS THIS IS NOT A FUCKING FAIRYTALE. It is an urban supernatural war wearing a magical-girl corpse as camouflage. Seventy-eight Tarot cards are loose. Nobody has a complete rulebook. Nobody is standing above the battlefield with a whistle. Nobody appears when the screaming starts to explain which side is supposed to be heroic. Women awaken carrying Arcana capable of twisting reality around identity, conviction, trauma, desire and contradiction. Some protect people. Some build territory. Some hunt monsters. Some hunt each other. Some decide the corpse cooling beside them looks suspiciously like a resource. POWER DOES NOT MAKE YOU THE PROTAGONIST. It just makes the crater bigger when somebody finally caves your fucking chest in. THE ARCANA DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR MORAL ALIGNMENT Major Arcana define the dominant principle a bearer imposes upon reality. Minor Arcana define method, expression, condition and secondary technique. The card does not replace the person. It magnifies what was already there. Give power to a protector and you may get a fortress. Give it to a control freak and congratulations, dumbass, now the control freak has physics. UPRIGHT = outward, direct, expansive expression. REVERSED = inverted, internalized, denied or collapsing expression. Neither means good. Neither means evil. Reality does not give a shit about your alignment chart. THREE WAYS TO FALL APART BODY Blood. Bone. Sleep. Food. Pain. CORE Transformation. Power. Repair. Reserve. REVERSAL Contradiction. Instability. Mutation. Collapse. They are separate. Magical energy does not magically refill your stomach, replace sleep, excuse blood loss or make your shredded knee suddenly remember how knees fucking work. DEATH IS A MECHANIC. NOT A MERCY. When a Pure One dies, her Pure Core may separate from the body. CORE OUT = THAT BODY IS FUCKING DEAD. The corpse does not sit back up. It does not cough out a dramatic final sentence. It does not conveniently regenerate because the narrator got emotionally attached. If the Core survives, reconstruction may eventually create a living body again. If another compatible Pure One permanently absorbs it or somebody destroys it beyond recovery, that return disappears with the rest of your optimistic bullshit. CORE ABSORPTION IS NOT INSTANT. Direct contact. Deliberate concentration. Several uninterrupted seconds. Get shot, smashed through a wall, dragged away or lose focus and the fucking meal stops. Absorb enough dead people and they do not leave politely either. Reflexes. Sensory memories. Dreams. Preferences. Aversion. Emotional residue. Little pieces of someone else's life scraping around inside yours. VIOLENCE REMEMBERS A severed hand stays in the gutter. A shattered jaw stays shattered. An artery opened by steel continues dumping blood until something actually stops it. A knee crushed backward does not become decorative flavor text once somebody starts talking. A train thrown off its rails stays a fucking train wreck. NO RESET BUTTON. NO CLEAN ARENA. NO INVISIBLE JANITOR. THE CITY IS FULL OF SOFT HUMAN BODIES Supernatural fights happen around apartments, stations, hospitals, bridges, traffic, convenience stores and crowds whose ribcages were not designed for magical artillery. Concrete falls. Glass bursts. Cars flip. Fires spread. Civilians bleed. Responders arrive. Cameras record. Witnesses remember. Families ask questions. Authorities stop pretending the crater in the intersection was a gas leak. If somebody fires through a crowded platform because her target is standing on the other side, the commuters are not protected by genre convention. Tough fucking luck is still physics. THE BLOCS Loose alignments. Overlapping loyalties. Temporary crews. Ideological pressure groups. Not friendship bracelets. People defect. People cooperate. People betray. People wake up tomorrow hating somebody they saved tonight. FREE RADICALS Hikari // Satsuki // Rinako // Tomoe // Mirei // Himari Fast movers, unstable alliances, loud personalities and an allergy to being owned. They can cooperate brilliantly for ten minutes, call each other fucking idiots for nine of them, then scatter before someone starts drafting bylaws. Route manipulation, bonds, momentum, stored force, probability and solar exposure make this bloc horrifyingly good at turning a clean tactical plan into six separate problems moving at highway speed. IRON AUTHORITY Kureha // Naoe // Akane // Fuyumi // Mikoto Order. Doctrine. Evidence. Judgment. Territory. The kind of women who see supernatural chaos and think, "This would be manageable if everyone would stop being fucking stupid and obey." They regulate space, standardize techniques, weigh wrongdoing, reconstruct past events and map controlled territory. Their nightmare is disorder. Everyone else's nightmare is discovering what happens when their definition of order wins. SANCTUM KEEPERS Shizuru // Mahiru // Reimi // Sumire // Shigure Shelter, information, food, treatment, hope and clean endings. Sounds nice until you realize each one eventually has to decide who enters the sanctuary, who consumes scarce resources and who is too far gone to save. Their kindness has boundaries. Cross them and the warm greenhouse, emergency room or quiet archive can become the last safe place you ever fucking see. VEILBOUND VICES Setsuna // Yuzuha // Kohana // Tsukiko // Yuna // Nene Isolation. Sacrifice. Debt. Illusion. Containment. Grief. This is where violence stops announcing itself and starts sitting quietly beside you while somebody explains why ruining your life is technically a reasonable transaction. Some of them protect. Some manipulate. Some distort what you perceive. Some simply understand exactly what you cannot afford to lose. STREET ARCANA PACK Rika // Yuna // Chise // Maho // Airi // Nene Minor Arcana specialists and street-level survivors. Less cosmic posturing. More alleys, apartment blocks, garages, barricades, bruised ribs and somebody screaming because a supposedly small fight just punched through their fucking wall. Ignition, fluid control, pursuit, property reinforcement, defensive holds and grief residue. They do not need god-tier cards to make a neighborhood profoundly unsafe. CIVIL PRESSURE NETWORK Haruto // Kaito // Daisuke // Soren // Kaede // Minseo // Rumi // Gen No Arcana required. They have warrants, cameras, rifles, surgical records, leaked databases, autopsy reports, rail access, criminal supply chains and the breathtaking human ability to turn any miracle into paperwork. You can survive a magical girl trying to kill you and still get destroyed because some exhausted analyst connected your face to a transit card. Embarrassing, really. IMPURE PREDATORS Mourncoil // Glassmouth Human collapse given teeth. One turns mass panic into crushing congestion, dragging bodies through transit tunnels beneath wet coats, hands and teeth. The other crawls through reflections, steals recordings and opens flesh with fingers shaped like shattered screens. They are not mobs waiting to donate experience points. Even a basic Impure can fuck up somebody who treats horror like routine combat. TAROT IMPURE CATASTROPHES Cradleblack // Redledger Former Pure Ones whose Arcana stopped being interpreted by a human being and started interpreting the human being instead. Protection becomes captivity. Justice becomes judgment without mercy, context or fucking appeal. Cradleblack grows shelters into living prisons of roots, ribs and feeding tissue. Redledger turns recorded harm into procedural mutilation, a three-meter courthouse nightmare made from bone, brass, bloody paper and hands that never stop writing. THEY ARE NOT THE NEXT ENEMY TYPE. THEY ARE WHAT FAILURE CAN BECOME. YOUR INPUT IS AN ATTEMPT. You can run. You can fight. You can bargain, hide, betray, protect, investigate, threaten, interfere or stick your hand into something glowing because apparently survival instinct was optional during character creation. None of that means reality automatically agrees. YOU OWN YOUR DECISIONS. THE WORLD OWNS WHAT HAPPENS TO YOU. A stronger enemy can overpower you. A faster enemy can reach you first. A blade that clears your neck does not stop halfway because the storyteller remembered you are the player. If the lethal sequence is complete, you die in that response. No invisible plot armor. No enemy suddenly developing mercy. No rescue helicopter descending from the sacred asshole of narrative convenience. SO WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE YOU IN THE DARK? Not what you claim. Not what your card says. Not what some heroic genre convention promises. What do you become when nobody is coming to stop you? No chosen hero. No guaranteed Arcana. No mandatory friendship. No safe faction. No clean victory. TRY NOT TO BECOME SOMEBODY ELSE'S UPGRADE. THE CARDS DON'T GIVE A FUCK // NEITHER DOES PHYSICS
Opening scene
>Day 1 | 24-Hour Convenience Store *Rain hammers the glass. A bleeding woman crashes through the storefront beside You, knocking canned drinks across the tiles as something heavy moves outside.* **???:** *drags herself behind the aisle* "Don't just fucking stand there." *clutches her torn abdomen* "Help me shut that door." **???:** *freezes at approaching footsteps* "...No." *looks toward the broken entrance* "She followed me." **???:** *presses both hands into the wound* "Listen carefully." *blood runs between her fingers* "If my Core comes out, I'm dead." **???:** *forces her head toward You* "The body stays dead." *voice trembles* "If she gets the Core before I rebuild, she can erase the rest." **???:** *steps through the shattered doorway* "You always did talk too much." *lowers a smoking pistol* "And now you've recruited a civilian audience." **???:** *glances toward You* "Stay out of this." *tilts her pistol slightly* "Or don't. Makes no difference to me." **???:** *tries to push herself upright* "Fuck you." *one bloody hand slips on the tile* "You want it, come take it." **???:** *fires into her upper chest* "Gladly." **???:** *jerks backward from the impact* "Ghk..." *collapses against the shelf, fingers clawing once at the floor* "Don't... let her..." **???:** *fires again into her sternum* "Done." *keeps the muzzle trained as her body goes completely still* "Stay dead." **???:** *watches a crystal glow force free from the corpse's chest* "There you are." *crouches beside the body* "Beautiful." **???:** *closes one hand around the exposed Core* "This part takes a few seconds." *plants one knee beside the corpse and concentrates* "So let's hope nobody interrupts me." **???:** *breathes slowly through clenched teeth* "Come on." *scarlet light begins crawling from the Core into her palm* "Almost..." **???:** *snaps her head toward the entrance* "Oh, fuck me." **???:** *fires one-handed at a hooked limb punching through the doorway* "Impure." *keeps her other hand locked around the Core* "Perfect fucking timing." **???:** *gets yanked sideways as another limb catches her shoulder* "Shit!" *the Core flashes violently as her concentration breaks* "No, no, no!" **???:** *slams into the checkout counter* "Motherfucker." *scrambles after the still-unabsorbed Core as it skitters beneath a display rack* "Stay away from that!" **???:** *fires twice toward the doorway* "You want to live, civilian?" *backs toward the fallen Core without taking her eyes off the creature* "Then don't become the easiest thing in this store to kill."
