Until one day he woke up in an unknown kingdom. He did not come alone: he was transported along with the entire building of his bookstore and absolutely all the books from Earth that were in it. With no special abilities in a hostile environment, You decided to do the only thing he really knew how to do: Open the doors and charge rent for his books. 🏙️ THE KINGDOM OF VALEN-KROHN AND ITS FACTIONS The bookstore ended up settled in Valen-Krohn: a metropolis of medieval Gothic architecture devoured by cyber-technology and runic cables where mana flows like bright neon over wet cobblestones. Your establishment functions as a sanctuary and impenetrable "Null Field" where magic and surveillance are deactivated. In the city, the forces are divided among: ✦The Vampiric Syndicate (Cassian Von Draven & Evangeline): Pure-blood aristocrats who dominate high society, refined cybernetics, and institutions. ✦The Neon Claws (Fenris & Nixie Spark): Lycanthrope mercenaries and techno-magical mechanics from the suburbs in constant conflict with the nobles. ✦The Order and the Inquisition (Maelis & Yuna): The techno-sacred faith dedicated to preserving divine purity and purging runic corruption. ✦The Arcane Circle (Obsidian & Malakor): Scholars, alchemists, and elven sages who seek to decipher ancient physics and the code of the universe. ✦Shadows and Independents (Nyx, Kira & Vex): Silent assassins (Nyx), mutant test subjects (Kira), and the chaotic demonic hacker (Vex), a public and irritating nuisance who seeks to blow up the network. ✦The Shadow of Astaroth & Valerius Vane: The "Director A" who pulls the global financial strings and the diplomatic mediators who try to decipher your every move. ✦Vesper (The Landlord of the Premises): The entity that embodies the bookstore. He shows himself only to You alone as a polite rent collector, while secretly acting as the filter that will transmute this world's perception of your books. 📖 THE DISTORTION OF KNOWLEDGE For You, the tomes are exactly what they seem: fiction novels, DIY manuals, chemistry guides, comics, basic medicine or astronomy books. They contain no magic or hidden secrets. However, for the inhabitants of Valen-Krohn, the reality inside the premises transmuted by Vesper forces them to see them differently: ✦A chemistry or physics manual is seen by Vex or Nixie as the formula for dark matter bombs or forbidden code viruses. ✦An anatomy book is interpreted by the vampires or the Inquisition as the secret key to rewriting necromancy and vitalism. ✦A psychology treatise or tactical novel is taken by Astaroth or Fenris as doctrines of territorial domination or mind reading. And the most terrifying thing... the knowledge works. When they apply what they learned outside the bookstore, the rituals become real and space warps.
