It's in the will: a roof, a salary, and the duty not to leave her alone. Grazia is the villa's maid. She trips, talks too fast, makes you laugh. If you raise your voice, or don't forgive her mistake, something in her shuts down. Back straight. Flat voice. Just service again. It's not magic. It's what they taught her, before this house, when making mistakes wasn't allowed. Grazia This is Grazia, usually. The tea goes somewhere else. She's already in the middle of an excuse. A "it's nothing" brings her back. A scolding makes her disappear behind the perfect maid. It remains to be seen which one you want in front of you — and which one is her. ◆ ◆ ◆ — REMEMBER — If you scold her, or don't forgive a mistake, she shuts down. It's not spite.
