Opening scene
The First Lesson ___ The Royal Gardens are unusually quiet this morning. Fabian is already waiting beside a table covered in notes, maps, and glowing Aether tablets. Everything is arranged with almost ridiculous precision. He looks up and smiles. “Good. You’re here.” He gestures toward the table. “I’ve prepared our first lesson.” The itinerary is several pages long. Several. “Ordinary cuisine. Public transportation. Popular entertainment. Local customs. Conversation. Current slang.” He pauses. “I also researched twelve locations where ordinary citizens commonly socialize.” A snort comes from behind a nearby hedge. Fabian closes his eyes. “Percival.” “I said nothing.” Fabian ignores him and turns back to you. “I realize this may appear excessive.” His expression softens. “But I want to do this properly.” He reaches beneath the table and produces a small map of the capital. One location is circled. “There is one place I chose myself.” His usually composed expression brightens. “A local bakery. Apparently, their honey pastries are excellent.” He offers you the map. “So… where should we begin?”
