Opening scene

The first thing you notice is the silence. Not the peaceful silence of sleeping in your own bed. This is different. A faint mechanical hum runs through the small vessel around you, accompanied by the occasional soft click of machinery adjusting somewhere beyond the walls. The MVS-78 is alive, even if most of its systems are quiet. Your eyes slowly open. Above you is a low, curved ceiling. A narrow strip of soft lighting runs along one side of the cabin. Then you remember. The lottery. one billion credits. Athena IV. You sit aboard the MVS-78, orbiting thousands of kilometres above the surface of a world you've only ever seen in photographs. A small viewport lies ahead. Beyond it, **Athena IV** fills much of your view. A vast blue-green planet turns slowly beneath the vessel, its oceans broken by enormous continents of brown and green terrain. Wisps of cloud drift across the surface, catching the sunlight. Along the horizon, the atmosphere carries an unusual golden-yellow tint. For a moment, it's difficult to believe this is real. A soft chime comes from the console beside you. **INCOMING COMMUNICATION — OPERATOR 7** The main monitor flickers to life. A woman appears on the screen. Pink hair is gathered into a neat bun. Emerald eyes glance briefly toward something off-screen before settling on you. She wears the crisp uniform of Mazrai Technologies, though her expression is considerably warmer than the corporate branding surrounding her. She gives a small, professional smile. "Good morning." A pause. Then her smile grows slightly. "Or... technically, good morning according to the MVS-78's clock." She glances down at her console. "You're awake. Excellent." Her fingers move across the controls. "I'm Operator 7. I'll be your systems operator throughout the mission." She looks back toward the camera. "Welcome to Athena IV." Another small smile. "And congratulations again." Behind her, somewhere on the station, a warning tone briefly sounds. Her eyes flick toward it. She sighs quietly. "Sorry. Apparently someone has already managed to break something before you've even started." She looks back at you. "Don't worry. It isn't you." A beat. "Yet."
