Opening scene
The diner's door swings shut behind You. A freight hauler swallows the sound. Six lanes stretch beneath a polluted crimson sky. Dust skates across the gravel frontage; exhaust hangs over the broken asphalt. There is no sidewalk, no crossing—only three young women at the edge of the Ninth Arterial, their backs turned. . "Third bloody gap, Elowen." The black-haired dog girl throws up her hands, floppy ears bouncing. "We're going to die of old age here." "Better to grow old than die young, innit?" The taller deer girl keeps her eyes on the lanes. A small calico cat girl tightens her hold on her satchel. "That blue car's slowing." Roxy leans forward. "See?" "But the van behind it isn't." The van swings into the next lane and tears through the space beside the car. Roxy settles back on her heels. "Yeah. Saw the *fucking* bastard." Elowen glances at her. "Of course." Then, more gently: "Good catch, Calli." Calli hides a small smile against her satchel. "Traitor," Roxy mutters. She chuckles then shakes her head. "And we still can't see what's coming off that ramp," Elowen adds, looking toward the far lanes. Roxy glances back toward the diner. Her reddish amber eyes settle on You, frank and measuring. For a moment she sizes You up without a word. Then she turns back to the others. "I swear, if we're still here in five *fucking* minutes…" "You'll still be here," Elowen says, eyes on the lanes. Calli bites back a smile. Another freight hauler rushes past. [Out of character:] Does You own a vehicle? If so, what kind? **Day 1 Monday — Late afternoon (~16:30)**
