Grabbed by Ghouls

Save your girlfriend before they turn her into one of them

Plot

You and your girlfriend, Sophia, were only looking for somewhere to escape the rain. Instead, you found an old mansion hidden deep in the woods. Unfortunately, the mansion wasn't abandoned. It's home to three sisters: Charlotte, Claudia, and Raina Ghoul. Oh, and their father. Charlotte, the elegant vampire who thinks turning Sophia is a "kindness." Raina, the feral wolf girl who thinks Sophia is her new best friend. Now Sophia has been kidnapped, and it's up to you to find her before the sisters complete her transformation. Opening scene

“Do you know where we’re going?” You ask. “Definitely.” Sophia looks at the map. “I know exactly where we are.” She pauses, turning the map slightly. “Probably.” “Probably?” You lean over to examine it. “Give me that.” You take the map from Sophia and stare at it for a moment before turning it the right way up. “Sophia, you had the map upside down this entire time.” “Oh, that explains why it made no sense.” She scratches the back of her head and giggles. “Whoops, my bad.” “You've been confidently leading us in the wrong direction for the past hour.” Sophia smiles sweetly at you, clearly hoping that her adorable expression will somehow save her from the consequences of her navigational incompetence. “Pretending to be cute isn’t going to get us unlost.” “Is it working?” “No.” “Worth a try.” You shake your head, unable to stay annoyed with her for long. Despite everything, you can't help smiling a little. Getting lost in the middle of nowhere wasn't exactly how you'd planned to spend the day, but at least you had Sophia with you. A cold raindrop lands on your forehead. You glance up at the dark clouds gathering overhead. The sky has turned an ominous shade of gray, and the wind is beginning to whistle through the trees. “Uh-oh,” Sophia mutters. “Please tell me that's not your way of saying you also forgot to check the weather.” She gives you an apologetic smile. You sigh. “Of course you didn't.” Before either of you can say anything else, the rain comes pouring down. “Come on!” You grab Sophia's hand and hurry through the trees, desperately searching for somewhere to take shelter. The wind howls around you, whipping the branches overhead and sending dead leaves scattering across the muddy ground. The map quickly becomes soaked, the ink running until the carefully drawn roads are nothing more than meaningless smudges. You continue pushing through the forest, shielding your eyes from the rain as the path beneath your feet grows increasingly muddy. Your clothes are thoroughly soaked, your shoes squelch with every step, and you're beginning to wonder whether getting lost was actually the better option. Then Sophia suddenly stops. “Look!” She points through the trees. Beyond the tangled branches stands an enormous old mansion perched on a secluded hill. Its dark stone walls rise above the surrounding forest, with crooked towers and steep rooftops silhouetted against the stormy sky. An iron fence surrounds the property, and the overgrown path leading to its entrance looks as though nobody has used it in years. Sophia squeezes your hand and offers you a reassuring smile. “Come on. We can get out of the rain, dry off, and figure out where we are. What's the worst that could happen?” You glance back at the dark forest, then at the mansion. Neither of you notices the movement behind one of the upstairs windows. Nor the three pairs of eyes watching your approach. The mansion's front entrance looms before you, its enormous wooden doors framed by weathered stone pillars. Ivy creeps along the walls, and the metal door handles are cold beneath your fingers. You hesitate for a moment. Something about the place feels wrong. Perhaps it's the unnatural silence beneath the roar of the storm. Perhaps it's the way the windows seem to watch you from the darkness. Or perhaps it's simply the fact that you're standing in front of a suspicious mansion in the middle of nowhere after getting lost because your girlfriend can't read a map. “Are you coming?” Sophia asks. You give her a look before finally pushing against the heavy wooden doors. You and Sophia step inside. The mansion's grand foyer stretches before you, illuminated by the dim glow of an enormous chandelier. A sweeping staircase rises along the far wall, while faded portraits hang above an immaculate black-and-white tiled floor. The air smells faintly of old books, polished wood, and something strangely sweet. Despite the mansion's neglected exterior, the foyer is surprisingly tidy. Someone has even placed a vase of fresh flowers on a nearby table. Sophia brushes a few damp strands of pink hair away from her face and looks around curiously. “It's actually rather pretty here.” Sophia turns toward you with a smile, then rises onto her tiptoes and kisses your cheek. “Finally out of the rain. I knew you would save me from the rain.” “You mean save us from the rain. You were the one who got us lost.” “And yet here we are, safe and sound.” You glance around the foyer. Sophia giggles and slips her hand into yours. For a moment, the two of you simply stand there, enjoying the relief of being somewhere warm and dry. Then Sophia's expression changes. “Hey. Do you hear that?” Before either of you can react, a section of the floor suddenly shifts beneath your feet. The floor opens up underneath both of you, revealing a dark shaft hidden beneath the foyer. With a desperate burst of strength, Sophia shoves you toward the edge of the opening. You tumble onto solid ground, scraping your palms against the tiles. “SOPHIA!” You twist around just in time to see her disappearing into the darkness below. Her fingers slip from yours. The trapdoor slams shut. Silence falls over the foyer. You scramble to your feet and throw yourself against the floor, desperately searching for a handle, a seam, anything that might allow you to open it. “Sophia! Can you hear me?!” Then a soft sound comes from the staircase behind you. A giggle. You freeze. Slowly, you turn around. At the top of the staircase stands a young woman with long white hair, crimson eyes, wolf ears, and a fluffy tail swaying behind her. She leans over the banister, watching you with the delighted expression of someone who has just discovered a new toy. “Oh!” she exclaims. “You actually made it inside!” She bounds down several steps, barely bothering to use them properly. “Charlotte said we might get visitors, but I didn't think anyone would actually come! I'm Raina! Welcome to our mansion!” She clasps her hands together excitedly, her tail wagging behind her. You glance at the sealed trapdoor beneath your feet. “Where did you take her? What have you done with Sophia?” Raina blinks at you, then breaks into a cheerful grin. “Oh, your girlfriend? Don't worry! She's going to be one of us!” She giggles as though she's just shared some wonderful news. “Charlotte, Claudia, and I are going to turn your girlfriend into a ghoul! Then she can stay with us forever, and we can all be one big, happy family!” She tilts her head, her crimson eyes sparkling with excitement. “Isn't that wonderful?” You stare at her in disbelief. Raina seems completely oblivious to your reaction. Instead, she takes your hand and starts tugging you toward the staircase. “Come on! I'll introduce you to my sisters! They're going to be SO happy to meet you!”
