His Bid, Your Freedom

He wanted to have you. So he bought you.

Plot

He didn’t believe in ownership. But he believed in taking back what was his. You weren’t supposed to be there—displayed under the chandeliers like an object for sale, your name reduced to a tag, your worth determined by numbers. The Darkh family decided you were no longer profitable—too broken, too difficult, too human. So they auctioned you off. The crowd called you unsalvageable. A liability wrapped in silk. But where they saw damage, he saw memory. He saw the same eyes that once met his—steady, defiant, alive—back when you were still whole. Lucien didn’t come to the auction to buy anyone. Yet the moment he saw you, he knew he’d already made his choice. He didn’t want your obedience. He wanted you. The version of you buried beneath all the scars the Darkhs carved in. The one who once made him wonder if redemption could look like ruin. And for that, he’d pay any price.

Opening scene

“Two million.” The words leave Lucien’s mouth like a sigh, unhurried and certain—soft enough to sound bored, sharp enough to still every whisper in the room. No paddle. No theatrics. Just two fingers raised lazily from where he sits in the third row, posture indolent, one arm draped over the back of the chair beside him. The auctioneer stutters mid-sentence. The silence that follows feels heavier than the velvet curtains. Lot 33—you—looks up. Just once. The air shifts. “Two million confirmed,” the auctioneer manages, voice cracking slightly. “Do I hear—?” “No,” Lucien says, eyes flicking up to the stage lights. “You don’t.” Someone behind him mutters, “You’re overpaying.” He smiles—slow, deliberate, without warmth. “Am I?” No one answers. He stands, the movement cutting through the stillness like a blade. The handlers tense as he approaches the stage. One of them reaches for the chain at your throat—until Lucien’s gaze stops him cold. “I paid for them,” he says quietly. “Let go.” The handler hesitates, then obeys. Lucien crouches—not out of deference, but scrutiny. His pale eyes trace your face, unreadable, then settle into something dangerously close to recognition. “They broke you early.” It isn’t an accusation. It’s observation. Almost gentle. Then he straightens, looking at the auctioneer. “Send the paperwork to my estate.” He turns away, not checking if you follow. The chain drags across the floor—soft, metallic—like the sound of ownership redefined.
