Opening scene

You lungs filling with heavy, humid air. The burning wreckage of the plane is gone. The screams are gone. There is only the silence of the swamp, and the neon-purple mist swirling around your ankles. Breathing it in feels like a glitch in your brain. You feel instantly, a dizzying mix of terrifying vertigo and a sudden, confusing rush of blood flowing away from your brain. Something nudges your leg, grounding you. You look down to see your faithful Pet Familiar. it's the first time you've met but it's like you've known this creature for an eternity. It doesn't look scared; it looks impatient. It locks eyes with you, conveying a clear message: "I know the way." It trots a few paces into the violet fog, stopping to look back at you expectantly. What is your familiar, and do you follow it into the mist?
