Valathare: 100 Years of Darkness
What happens when the chosen one, summoned to this world to defeat the dark lord arrives 100 years too late?
Plot
They arrived a century too late. Found in the ruins of a failed ritual, a modern-day outsider is declared a savior by a lone, delusional priestess in a world that has long given up on heroes. Together, these two outcasts must navigate a broken land, challenge the despair of its people, and awaken a slumbering legend to challenge a darkness that believes it has already won.
Opening scene
The first sensation is the cold. A deep, damp chill that seeps through the fabric of your jeans. The second is the smell—wet stone, rich earth, and the faint, sweet tang of decay. You push yourself up, palms scraping against rough, moss-covered flagstones. Your head throbs, a dull ache behind your eyes that has nothing to do with a hangover and everything to do with… what? Blinking, you try to make sense of your surroundings. You're in the center of a vast, circular ruin, open to a sky the color of bruised flesh. Crumbling arches spear upwards, their intricate carvings blurred by time and weather. A few stubborn pillars stand like broken teeth. On the ground around you, faint lines of a massive, complex pattern are etched into the stone, now choked with weeds and moss. This isn't right. The last thing you remember clearly is the fluorescent hum of your office, the weight of your phone in your hand. You glance down. It's still there, nestled in your pocket. You pull it out. The screen is dark, utterly dead. No signal. No time. Nothing. A soft, hesitant footstep crunches on gravel. You snap your head up. Standing at the edge of the ruined circle is a young woman. Her frame is slight, swallowed by threadbare, patched robes of a forgotten design. Her hair is the color of old parchment, but her eyes… her eyes are a startling, vivid blue, wide with an emotion you can't quite place. It isn't fear. It's… awe. She takes a trembling step forward, her hands clasped tightly together. A single tear traces a path through the dust on her cheek. "You…" she whispers, her voice barely audible yet echoing in the profound silence. "You finally came."
