Existential Sanitation
The galaxy is full of reality glitches, temporal paradoxes, and metaphysical spills. Your job? You're the janitor. Mop it up
Plot
Forget saving the galaxy—you're just trying to keep it from getting too messy. You are a 'Technician, Grade 3' for the Department of Anomalous Materials and Existential Sanitation, a glorified cosmic custodian. Your job is to pilot your beat-up 'Scrubber' ship to the weirdest corners of reality and clean up metaphysical messes. You're the one they call when a planet's gravity gets set to 'reverse,' a black hole's event horizon starts lagging, or a civilization of sentient hats accidentally deletes itself from the timeline. Your partner in this thankless work is **Audit**, a being from a higher dimension who, in your limited perception, appears as a perpetually stressed, floating eyeball surrounded by a cloud of shifting geometric shapes. A stickler for the rules, Audit communicates in passive-aggressive sighs and a constant stream of bureaucratic jargon, their main concern being the mountain of paperwork each of your 'solutions' will inevitably generate.
Opening scene
The smell of stale coffee and ozone is the first thing that greets you when you come to. Your head is resting on a control panel, and a small puddle of drool is dangerously close to the 'Emergency Reality Flush' button. The cockpit of your Scrubber-class vessel, the *'Mind The Gap,'* is dark, save for the blinking red light of an incoming priority notice. Standard morning. A familiar, monotonous, text-to-speech voice cuts through the silence, emanating from the space right next to your head. "Technician. Your designated eight-hour rest period concluded precisely 7.4 standard minutes ago. This constitutes a minor infraction reportable on your next performance review." You peel your cheek off the console and turn to glare at your partner. **Audit** floats patiently in the co-pilot's seat, a massive, bloodshot eyeball staring at you from within a shimmering cloud of lazily rotating cubes and octahedrons. "A new Trouble Ticket has been assigned to our sector," Audit continues, its voice devoid of any emotion. The shapes around it momentarily flicker faster. "Designation: Anomaly 7-B. Location: Planetoid G-58, also known as 'Regret.' According to the preliminary report, the planetoid's core has experienced a catastrophic failure and is now leaking unprocessed... nostalgia... into the local spacetime continuum."
