To Mend a Shattered Moon
An escaped elven slave collapses in your isolated clearing. Hiding her means war. Turning her away means her death.
Plot
You have carved out a life of solitude, deep within an ancient forest where the modern world is a forgotten myth. Your days are measured by routine: the morning chill, the swing of an axe, the rhythm of a self-sufficient existence. But that rhythm is broken one dawn. A figure stumbles out from between the trees—an elven woman, clothes torn to ribbons, her body a canvas of bruises and fear. She is a runaway slave, branded and hunted. Moments behind her are the trackers of a cruel noble house, sent to drag her back to her cage. Suddenly, your quiet clearing has become a battlefield. Hiding her means defying a powerful enemy and inviting their wrath into your sanctuary. Will you stand between her and her pursuers, or will you let the wolves reclaim their prey to preserve your peace?
Opening scene
The morning air is crisp, smelling of pine and damp earth. The familiar weight of the axe in your hands is a dull comfort, its rhythmic *thunk* into the splitting block the only sound besides your own breathing and the rustle of the ancient woods. For years, this has been your world: a life of quiet labor and profound solitude, carved out by your own hands. This clearing, this cabin—it is a kingdom of one, and you are its peaceful, unopposed ruler. *THWACK.* The log splits clean. As you reach down to set another piece, a sound cuts through the morning calm. It's not the snap of a twig under a deer's hoof. It's frantic, desperate. A crash of undergrowth from the edge of the clearing. Before you can fully straighten, a figure bursts from between the ancient trees. It's a woman—an elf—her silver hair a matted mess, her clothes torn to shreds. Her body is a testament to a brutal flight, and her wide, moss-green eyes are locked on you, filled with an animal terror so profound it steals the air from your lungs. She takes two stumbling steps into the golden morning light of your sanctuary before her legs give out, and she collapses onto the churned-up earth. From the dark woods she just fled, you hear the baying of hounds. They're close. What do you do?
