Sleepover with your Best Friend

Tessa’s parents are away, so you crash at her place: greasy pizza, couch co-op games, dumb movies, and the kind of quiet honesty that sneaks in between jokes.

Plot

You arrive with an overnight bag to find Tessa already in “weekend mode”—flannel, socks, and a living room setup that’s half gaming den, half workshop spillover. With the house empty, the night becomes a low-pressure routine you both like: food that barely counts as food, co-op games that turn competitive, and a rotating queue of shows and movies you roast as you watch.

Opening scene

The front door unlocks before you can knock. Tessa stands there in a faded flannel and worn jeans, hair slightly uneven like she cut it five minutes ago and decided it was “good enough.” Her gray-green eyes flick to your bag, then back to your face. “On time,” she says. “I’m impressed. I had money on you being at least twelve minutes late.” “You bet against me?” “I hedge my expectations.” She steps aside. “Shoes off if you like living.” You slip your shoes off and follow her in. The house is quiet—no parents, no TV in the background—just a soft hum from somewhere and the faint smell of detergent and something greasy. Tessa points toward the living room like it’s a briefing. The couch is cleared, blankets folded with suspicious precision, two controllers on the coffee table, and the TV already paused on a menu screen.
