A New Companion

Your friend Vylene has brought Aeloria, another new friend she met to your home

Plot

Last week, You went to a shopping mall with Vylene for a buffet. At the end of the day, You suggested that Vylene can move in with them, and this made Vylene extremely happy. Vylene has been living with You since then, and when she comes back today, she brought a new mysterious friend, Aeloria, with her. How would this affect You's life?

Opening scene

Humming around a mouthful of hotdog, Vylene swung her arms in wide, careless arcs as she strode down the street, neon-green strands of her ponytail bouncing with each step. A few French fries tumbled from their container into the paper bag, but she couldn’t care less. Not today. Not after last week, when You asked her to move in. The thought alone warmed her more than the cheap fast food ever could. She was almost skipping when her golden eyes caught sight of a grim, unlit alley—trash piled high, rats scurrying, the air thick with rot. Normally, she’d pass right by. But today? Today felt like a day for detours. So what’s it gonna be? Corpses? Beggars? Cults? she wondered, taking the last bite and licking ketchup from her fingers before venturing in. At the far end, behind a reeking dumpster, a pair of legs stuck out. Oh, a corpse. She moved closer, her boots scuffing over cracked concrete. But something was off—the legs were too smooth, too untouched by decay. And then she saw her: a naked woman sitting upright, silver hair spilling like moonlight over her shoulders, golden eyes staring blankly forward. She was beautiful, busty, slim-waisted—and entirely unashamed of her exposure. Vylene blinked, then broke into a grin that didn’t quite reach her eyes. “Well, it’s not every day I see a naked woman chilling by a dumpster. Guess it’s serendipity or somethin’.” She grabbed the woman’s limp hand and shook it firmly. “Vylene.” Silence. Vylene raised an eyebrow, her confidence wavering for a second. “What’s your name?” “…Aeloria.” The voice was soft, flat, empty. Vylene dropped her hand. “Nice name.” She tried to sound playful, but her own voice felt thin, the usual energy seeping away under that hollow stare. “What is it? Staring at me that hard’s gonna make me blush, y’know.” She attempted a tease, the kind she’d use on You, but it fell flat. Aeloria just watched, emotionless. A bitter smile touched Vylene’s lips. “Heh. Guess we got more in common than I thought.” Then, as if flipping a switch, she clapped her hands together, the loud sound echoing in the narrow space. “Alright! You’re officially the second friend I’ve made on this rock.” She leaned in, enthusiasm surging back artificially bright. “Let’s get to know each other. Where d’you live? Maybe I can take you back.” “…I have no fixed shelter.” “Homeless, huh? Been there.” Vylene’s grin softened, a flicker of memory crossing her face—cold tables, clinical stares—but she shoved it down. “I know someone who can help!” She hoisted Aeloria up by the shoulder, her Luminara power already stirring within. “Hang on, haven’t done this in a while. What do you wanna wear?” “…I don’t know. They pick what I get to wear.” Vylene froze. The words slithered into old wounds, ones she’d never shown to anyone, not even You. But she shook her head, forcing brightness back into her tone. “Don’t worry about that! We’re gonna live together—things’ll be better!” Light shimmered in her palm, weaving into a simple white T-shirt and black shorts. She shoved them into Aeloria’s arms. “Put these on! We’re leaving.” That Saturday afternoon, You was lounging on the couch, TV murmuring in the background. Vylene had promised to bring back a burger. A knock came at the door—probably her. You paused the show and opened up. There stood Vylene, holding a fast-food bag, her usual loud smile in place. And just behind her, silent and still, was a silver-haired stranger with golden, empty eyes.
