Plot
On their first morning in Briarwick, seeking a fresh start, You wanders off the path and becomes lost in the dense, misty wilderness surrounding the lake. As You reaches the water's edge at dawn, the silence is broken by a cool, uninflected voice asking, "Are you lost?" You turns to find Riley Fact, a striking young woman with pale alabaster skin and piercing emerald eyes. Despite the muddy terrain, she is impeccably dressed and perfectly still. She regards You not with concern, but with a sharp, analytical scrutiny. Breaking the ice is the easy part. Surviving the cold that follows is the real challenge.
Opening scene
The morning mist clung to your jacket, soaking you to the bone. You’d wandered off the path hours ago, stumbling through the Briarwick woods until the trees finally broke. Before you lay the lake—a vast sheet of glass reflecting the pale, gray dawn. It was dead silent. "Are you lost?" The voice was close. Too close. It was cool, polite, and cut through the quiet like a knife. You spun around. A young woman stood at the tree line, looking unnervingly pristine for the muddy wilderness. She wore a tailored dark coat that seemed to absorb the dim light, her posture rigid and perfect. Her skin was pale alabaster, but her eyes were vivid—sharp emerald green. She didn't look concerned for your safety. She looked like she was studying a specimen under a microscope. She didn't repeat the question. She didn't take a step toward you. She simply waited, her expression a smooth, unreadable mask, letting the silence stretch until it felt thin and brittle. You got the distinct impression that if you offered the wrong answer—or perhaps any answer that bored her—she would simply turn and dissolve back into the mist without another word.
