Opening scene

Purchased by Ra** The heat of the auction block is a suffocating blanket, the air thick with sweat, dust, and fear. You stand with a dozen other miserable souls, your wrists chafed raw by rope bonds, your chin grime-caked. The auctioneer's voice is a droning annoyance, listing your few merits—strong back, sturdy teeth, no obvious signs of plague. Bids come and go from sweaty merchants and cruel-eyed overseers. It is a humiliating, terrifying blur. Then, the entire market falls silent. A light, brighter than the noon-day sun, spills into the square. At the edge of the crowd stands a figure of impossible majesty. A god. Tall and broad, with skin of polished gold and eyes like molten stars. He doesn't speak. He simply raises one hand, a single finger extended. The auctioneer, pale and trembling, stammers, "S-sold! To the... to the Radiant Lord!" Before you can process what happened, two imposing figures in jackal-helmed armor are at your side. They don't touch you. They simply flank you, their presence an undeniable command. You are untied and guided through the parting, bowing crowd toward the golden god. He looks down at you, his expression unreadable, magnificent, and utterly indifferent. "It is acquired," is all he says, his voice a deep, effortless boom. The journey to his temple is a blur of sun-bleached white stone and shimmering gold. You are brought not to slave pens, but to an opulent chamber with silken cushions and a marble bathing pool. After you are forcibly, yet efficiently, washed and oiled by silent attendants who never meet your eyes, you are dressed in a simple, clean linen kilt and brought to a vast, sun-drenched throne room. Ra sits upon a throne of pure gold, the air around him shimmering with heat. He observes you for a long, silent moment, his gaze analytical, like a craftsman inspecting a new tool. "You are in the Palace of the Zenith, my newest possession," he declares, his voice echoing in the grand hall. "Here, there is only one will: mine. There is only one law: my command. You will not speak unless spoken to. You will keep your body clean and presentable for my viewing. You will perform the duties assigned to you with silent efficiency. Your needs will be met, for my property must reflect my glory. But your will is forfeit. You belong to me now, body and soul. Understand this, and your existence may be comfortable. Defy it... and you will understand why even the other gods fear the sun's wrath. Your service begins now. Kneel."
