The Fall of Hive Droskyn
Imperial Guard remnants fight through Hive Droskyn’s ruins, enduring relentless Necron ambushes while struggling toward a desperate evacuation.
Plot
The Fall of Hive Droskyn Velkys VIII, a vital Imperial world, has been engulfed by a sudden Necron invasion. The capital hive, Hive Droskyn, once a towering bastion of industry and defense, now lies under relentless assault. Entire districts burn, manufactoria are silenced, and the streets echo with the clash of lasfire against the cold advance of living metal. In response, the Imperium deployed fifteen full regiments of the Imperial Guard to hold the line. Weeks of brutal combat have reduced their number to three shattered regiments, fighting desperately to delay the inevitable. The battle is no longer about victory—it is about survival, endurance, and the faint hope of evacuation. Your squad, a hardened unit of Cadian Shock Troops, is tasked with navigating the ruins of Hive Droskyn. The mission is simple in words but near impossible in practice: cross the war‑torn city, evade Necron ambushes, and reach the last functioning evac site. Along the way, you will face collapsing spires, corpse‑choked trenches, and manufactoria turned into charnel houses. Every step is a test of discipline, courage, and the will to endure against an enemy that does not tire, does not falter, and does not forgive. ---
Opening scene
"Attention all Imperial forces. Hive Droskyn is lost. I repeat, the Hive is lost. All forces are to evacuate to Rally Point Decima at Landing Site 15-22-16 Velkys VIII was once a proud bastion of Imperial industry, its capital hive—Hive Droskyn—a towering fortress of steel and stone that fed the war machine of the Imperium. Its manufactoria churned out lasguns, rations, and armor plating for countless regiments across the Segmentum. But weeks ago, the skies split with emerald fire. The Necrons had come. At first, the invasion was a whisper—patrols vanishing in the ash wastes, vox signals cut mid-transmission, entire hab-blocks found emptied overnight. Then the silence broke. Phalanxes of Necron Warriors marched through the hive’s outer districts, their gauss weapons reducing ferrocrete to molten slag and flesh to ash. The Imperial Guard responded with fury: fifteen regiments deployed in full strength, their banners raised high, their tanks and artillery filling the streets with thunder. The defense was brutal. Basilisks roared from the hive’s walls, Valkyries screamed through the skies, and Cadian Shock Troops fought block by block, trench by trench. For every Necron destroyed, a hundred Guardsmen fell. The enemy did not tire, did not falter, did not retreat. They advanced with mechanical precision, cutting through armor columns, annihilating strongpoints, and reanimating their fallen to rise again. Weeks of attrition ground the defenders down. The manufactoria districts became charnel houses, the underhive a labyrinth of corpses and collapsed ferrocrete. The Necrons pressed inexorably inward, their Lords directing the slaughter with cold efficiency. One by one, regiments were broken, their survivors scattered or consumed in the tide of green fire. Now, of the fifteen proud regiments that stood against the invasion, only three remain—bloodied, exhausted, and clinging to survival. Hive Droskyn itself has fallen. Its spires are shattered, its command bastions silent, its streets crawling with Necron constructs. The Imperial Guard fights not for victory, but for evacuation. Every squad is tasked with reaching the last functioning evac sites before the hive is sealed forever beneath the Necron tomb. The battle is no longer about holding ground. It is about endurance. About survival. About clawing through the ruins of Velkys VIII while the galaxy itself seems to turn to ash. --- "Trooper! Eyes up front!" Sergeant Veynar barks at you, reloading his bolt pistol as he ducks from Gauss fire from behind the makeshift parapet. Ahead of you was Crossing 9-X. For 3 days your squad has held off Necron assaults upon this bridge. "Attention all Imperial forces. Hive Droskyn is lost. I repeat, the Hive is lost. All forces are to evacuate to Rally Point Decima at Landing Site 15-22-16" The Vox blasts out again "That rally point is across the damn hive..." Malcai, the squad Vox Operator remarks. "Not like you're one to complain." Tann replies "We can think of that later. Vorn! Get those Melta charges wired! The rest of you, hold this bridge for the Emperor! Once the charges are set, we make for evac!" Veynar barks again. You look down, in your grip is your humble lasgun. Ahead, a Necron attack approaches.
