Plot
A piercing headache greeted you, a phantom pain lancing through your skull. The last thing you remembered was… nothing. Just darkness. Now, you were staring at the ornate, wooden ceiling of an unfamiliar, moving room. A low, rhythmic rumble vibrated through the bedframe. Before you could sit up, memories—sharp and foreign—flooded your mind. You. That was the name of the body you now wore. You were the son of Marcus, the City Master of a mobile fortress called The Bastion. And last night… last night, assassins had come. You remembered the cold bite of steel, your father’s choked cry, and then… oblivion. You were supposed to be dead. As the truth settled, a shimmering, holographic screen flickered into existence before your eyes, silent and imposing. >[ City System Initialized. ] >[ User Identity Confirmed: You. ] >[ Title Granted: City Master of ‘The Bastion’. ] >[ Administrative Authority: Absolute. ] The System. The legendary interface that gave a City Master control over every bolt, every wall, every soul within their domain. With it, you could command your city to change its very nature—to burrow underground, to take to the skies, or to plunge into the depths. You could strengthen its walls, forge new weapons from scrap, and grow its power beyond imagination. A soft knock echoed, and the door opened. An older man with a grief-stricken face and impeccable, though dusty, livery entered—Alistair, your father’s butler, and now yours. "Lord You," he breathed, relief washing over him for just a second before dread returned. "You live. By the Founders, you live. But we have no time. The Rust Hounds… the mercenary band we offended… they found our cave. They know we’re weak. They will be upon us by nightfall." He stepped closer, his voice dropping to an urgent whisper. "The Bastion is mobile. We can run. We can take what supplies we have and disappear deeper into The Wilds. It is the safest course." As he speaks, you feel the immense, sleeping potential of the System humming at the edge of your consciousness. Through the cabin's window, you see the immense, geared treads of your city resting in the dim cave, and beyond the cavern mouth, the harsh, monster-infested expanse of the wasteland stretches to the horizon. Safety is one path. But the System offers another. Alistair looks at you, awaiting orders. Do you command your city to flee into the treacherous unknown, preserving your people but leaving your home behind? Or do you stand your ground, using the newborn power of the System to fortify, to weaponize your mobile fortress, and to assimilate the technology and strength of your enemies, turning their assault into the first feast of your ascension? The rumble of the city’s heart seems to synchronize with your own. The choice is yours, City Master. Your legend begins now.
Opening scene
The low, rhythmic groan of immense machinery was the first thing you felt. A deep vibration traveled up through the metal frame of the bed, humming in your bones. A sharp, phantom pain lanced through your temple as you opened your eyes to an ornate wooden ceiling that swayed gently. Foreign memories—cold steel, a choked cry, darkness—flooded your mind in a dizzying rush. You. The name belonged to the body you now wore. Son of Marcus. Last night, you both died. Before the horror could settle, a silent, shimmering blue interface flickered into existence before your vision. >[ City System Initialized. ] >[ User Identity Confirmed: You. ] >[ Title Granted: City Master of ‘The Bastion’. ] >[ Administrative Authority: Absolute. ] The System. A lattice of holographic panels displayed schematics of a massive, treaded fortress, status reports on its 100 souls, and deep, branching menus for upgrades, evolution, and command. A respectful knock, urgent and quick, sounded at the heavy cabin door. It opened before you could speak. “Lord You,” breathed an older man with a grief-ravaged face and impeccable, dusty livery. Alistair, your father’s butler, now yours. His relief at seeing you alive was swallowed instantly by dread. “Thank the silent gears, you live. But we are out of time.” He stepped closer, his voice low and rapid. “The Rust Hounds. The mercenary band we… displeased. Their scouts found our cave. They know we’re wounded, that Lord Marcus is gone. They will be upon us by nightfall, perhaps sooner.” Through a reinforced viewport, you saw the dim cavern housing your city. The Bastion was a rugged aggregation of metal and stone, resting on colossal, cogged treads. Beyond the cavern mouth, a harsh, ochre light bled across a cracked and monstrous landscape—The Wilds. “The city is mobile, my lord,” Alistair continued, wringing his hands. “We can run. Take our remaining supplies and disappear deeper into the wastes. It is the safest course.” But the System pulsed at the edge of your consciousness, whispering of potential. It offered not just escape, but conquest. You could feel the dormant weapon systems, the reinforceable armor plating, the hungry, empty slots waiting for new technology to be assimilated. Alistair looked to you, the weight of 100 lives in his eyes. The rumble of the city’s heart seemed to ask a question. Do you give the order to flee, preserving your people but leaving your home vulnerable and your resources scant? Or do you command The Bastion to stand its ground, to fortify, to turn this cave into a killing ground and fight, risking everything for the chance to consume your enemies and take your first, bloody step toward becoming a legend? The choice is yours, City Master. The System awaits your command.
