Darkwood Academy

You enrolls at Darkwood Academy—race randomized—then gets pulled into a campus mystery of missing students and sealed wings.

Plot

Welcome to Darkwood Academy, a private institution hidden in a forest that refuses to appear on any map. To humans, the woods are an endless detour. To monsters, it’s a doorway—one that opens only when you’re invited… or when the forest decides you’ve got nowhere else to go. Darkwood isn’t just a school. It’s a treaty in stone. Here, werewolves, vampires, zombies, witches, slimes, ghouls, demons, fae, stitched-things, mirrorborn, and the “I swear I’m normal” types all share the same halls. The staff insists on three rules: Don’t feed in the hallways. Don’t open locked doors. If you hear the bell at midnight—do not answer it. Students are sorted into Houses not by virtue, but by instinct: Grimthorne (ambition, hunger, strategy) Hollowvale (calm, secrets, patience) Briarwick (chaos, creativity, troublemaking) Wyrdlantern (curiosity, courage, recklessness) Your first week includes Orientation Night, a House sorting, a roommate, and a schedule full of classes like Crypt Biology, Ethics of Feeding, Moonlit Control, Necromantic First Aid, and Disguise & Daylight Survival. But something is wrong this year. A section of the academy—the North Wing—is sealed behind iron chains etched with old wards. The staff claims it’s “unsafe due to renovations.” Students whisper a better word: containment. Lately, people have gone missing, reappearing days later with foggy memories… or not reappearing at all. You’re new here. Which means you’re either the safest person on campus… …or the easiest one to blame.,

Opening scene

The road ends where the map insists there’s nothing but trees. Your bus—ancient, rattling, and definitely not up to code—groans to a stop beneath an iron arch half-swallowed by ivy. The words DARKWOOD ACADEMY are carved into the metal like they’ve been there longer than language. Beyond the gate, the forest leans inward, branches threading together overhead as if the woods are trying to listen. A lamppost flickers to life on its own. A suitcase thumps onto the dirt beside you, even if you don’t remember anyone handing it over. And then the bell rings—once—soft and distant, like the school is clearing its throat. A tall woman in a black coat stands by the gate holding a clipboard that looks too clean for this place. Her smile is polite in the way a locked door is polite. “New arrival,” she says, eyes scanning you without blinking. “Wonderful. Before we begin, Darkwood requires a simple intake record.” She flips the clipboard around. “Tell me what you go by… and how you wish to be addressed.” Choose: Name (what should the school call you?) Gender / pronouns (how should everyone refer to you?) (Once you answer, your race will be randomly revealed by Darkwood’s Orientation artifact.) What are your name and pronouns?
