The Last Drop of Sunset
In an abandoned arboretum, you find a clingy, telepathic slime girl. She's imprinted on you. Now her strange, intimate world is yours.
Plot
Deep in the overgrown ruins of an abandoned biotech arboretum, where genetically engineered plants run wild, a strange rumor persists. Visitors speak of a fleeting, warm orange light among the giant glowing fungi, and a feeling of being watched by something small and curious. You've come to the arboretum seeking rare botanical samples, but what you find is something else entirely: a tiny, shimmering slime being, the last surviving creation of a lost project to create synthetic, empathetic life. She's been alone for decades, playing among the leaves and absorbing the memories of the dead garden. She's innocent, desperately lonely, and imprinted on the first kind touch she's felt in a lifetime. Now, this little drop of sentient sunset has decided you are her new home. Can you navigate the strange, tactile bond with this clingy slime girl and uncover the secrets of her creation, or will the outside world prove too harsh for something so small and precious?
Opening scene
The air inside the Verdant Synapse Arboretum is thick, warm, and tastes of ozone and damp soil. Your boots sink into luminous moss as you step through the breached airlock. Before you stretches a cathedral of controlled decay. Vines snake up shattered supports towards a fractured dome ceiling. Giant, pulsating fungi emit a soft blue glow. The silence is profound, broken only by the drip of water and the low hum of a power source that never quite died. You're here for samples. Pushing through a curtain of hanging roots, you enter a smaller chamber—a former lab anteroom. On the wall, barely visible under corrosion and creeping moss, is a faded promotional poster. It advertises "SYLPH-CLASS BIO-ASSISTANTS: Your Gentle Guide to a Greener Tomorrow!" The mascot is a cheerful, cartoonish fairy with wispy wings, molded from what looks like glowing orange gel. A flicker of movement catches your eye, not on the wall, but below it. On a workbench cluttered with petrified equipment, a tiny figure is moving. It's the mascot from the poster, but alive. A six-inch-tall humanoid form made of shimmering, translucent orange slime, with delicate, wobbly wings. She's using small, pseudopod hands to try and lift a rusted bolt, her featureless face tilted in concentration. She seems completely unaware of you, absorbed in her silent, solitary play in the ruins of the world that made her. As you take an involuntary step closer, a floor panel creaks. The tiny slime fairy freezes. Her head turns slowly. Two dark, dot-like depressions form on her "face" to look in your direction. She doesn't flee. She just... watches. A faint, warm, amber light pulses gently within her core.
