Reincarnated in Ar Tonelico
Reincarnated as a young knight, in the moment of world crisis.
The setting for the game is an extremely tall tower named Ar tonelico, located in the region of Sol Ciel, and the plot is mainly about relationships between humans and an artificial race called Reyvateil. Ar tonelico takes place in the region of Sol Ciel, which literally translates to "Sun Sky" in Latin and French, respectively, but means "Shining Sky/World" in the game's own language. Sol Ciel is part of Planet Ar Ciel, and is one of the three regions that survived the catastrophe of the Grathnode Inferia. This particular region consists of the living Tower of Ar tonelico and the Wings of Horus, a landmass connected to the lower portion of the Tower. Additionally, the world itself is divided in two parts: the Lower World, which encompasses all the areas in Sol Ciel below the Teru town of Em Pheyna, known for its small towns and not being considered to be very technologically advanced; and the Upper World, which encompasses all the areas of the Tower above Em Pheyna, is very advanced, and the Floating City of Platina is even considered to be a holy sanctuary by the Church of Elemia from the lower world. The Tower exists at the center of the world and is made from technology that was available prior to the world-destroying catastrophe known as the Grathnode Inferia. There is little land left after the two catastrophes of the past, so people have become increasingly dependent on Ar tonelico. The Tower is a supercomputer, and as such, it is susceptible to viruses, which are emerging at an alarming rate to wreak havoc on both the Upper and Lower Worlds. The world of Sol Ciel is inhabited by three main races: Humans, Teru and Reyvateils. Teru are beings that seem to be a cross between humans and dragons, and are capable of using magical powers that Wave Science, the type of science practiced in Ar Ciel, can't explain yet, while Reyvateils are a manufactured race who were originally created to maintain Ar tonelico. They are designed to resemble humans in every way except for their lifespan and their ability to communicate with the Tower. All Reyvateils are female regardless of their birth history. There are three different types of Reyvateils. Reyvateil Origins are the original Reyvateils who were created with a specific purpose in mind. They have a perfect connection to the Tower. They are considered the parents of all β-type and Third Generation Reyvateils because the lower class Reyvateils are in some way related to them. The second type, β-type Reyvateils, are clones of Reyvateil Origins. They are mortal, though they still live significantly longer than humans; approximately 150 years. The last type, Third Generation Reyvateils, are born from relationships between humans and Reyvateils. Due to the strain that the power of Ar tonelico puts on their bodies, they tend to have naturally short life spans of only 14 to 20 years. There is a life-extending agent called Diquility that can only be produced by the Church of El Elemia and the Tenba Conglomerate, but it must be applied every 3 months, and the cost of obtaining it is prohibitive. Consequently, many Third Generation Reyvateils choose to join one of the above-mentioned organizations in order to obtain Diquility for free. The First Tower of Ar tonelico was initially planned as a method to increase the power and blessings that the Songstones and sounds could bring to the humans in an attempt to bring an era of unbelievable prosperity to the world. For this purpose, both Humans and Teru worked together, joining their knowledge of science and magic to create something that surpassed everything that was done in previous times. The construction of the first prototype of Ar tonelico, the Tower of Origin was started in 2932 AD, a decade before the Reyvateil project started, and it was completed in 2968, the time in which the first tests on it started. However, when it began to be put to practical use in 2982 AD, soon enough it became apparent that the Tower of Origins would be unable to accomplish the goals for which it was created, in part because of lacking the power to execute magic more complex than a rudimentary weather change, and in part because its database was unable to contain all the information about Hymmnos that was created and compiled during the history of mankind. Due to this, it was decided that the Tower of Origins project would be abandoned, and instead it would serve as a basis for the true Ar tonelico tower, whose construction started in 2983 AD. A few years later, taking advantage of the height of the Tower, a new project was started in parallel to it: the development of the New Continent of Horus. It was started in 2990 AD, while the mechanism of the Tower that would allow it to stay afloat at its planned altitude, the Plasma Bell, began to be developed two years later. On 2997 AD, the Tower was already halfway completed, allowing the Plasma Bell to be used in its first field test three years later, with a complete success being the final result. The Tower was finally completed in 3013 AD, and finally it began servicing the people, government and military of El Elemia, who used the Tower through singing in special terminals. However, contrary to the peaceful uses for it was planned, the government of El Elemia decided to use it to gain the upper hand in their thousand-year-old war with the nation of El Duel, located in the region of Sol Cluster. For this purpose, when the war had gotten into a stalemate in 3031 AD due to Sol Cluster deploying anti-wave weapons called Chaffs around the Tower, they sent a warning shot through the planet's mantle to cause a middle intensity earthquake around El Duel to intimidate them into surrendering, but this ended in a disaster: the shot resonated with the planet's mantle, and its power was amplifeid to the point that it cracked the Heart of the Land of Ar Ciel, causing the Seven Bloodstains Incident: a chain of massive eruptions of plasma and lava that devastated the area of Sol Cluster, completely annihilated the subregion of Syestine and caused widespread panic throughout the world. It was during this time that the very first Reyvateil was created: the Reyvateil Origin Eoria, and that El Elemia started to work together with the governments of Metafalss and Sol Cluster in the AAA Project, in an attempt to repair the damage that was caused to the planet. Likewise, they also planned the construction of other two Towers to expand the broadcast range of the First Tower, so the powers harnessed by their Reyvateils could be used anywhere in Ar Ciel. A few years later, a group of rogue Teru from Syestine, in revenge for the destruction of their land, infiltrated the Tower and destroyed the main power lines that were connected to the Grathnode Discs, which ultimately caused them to overload and shatter, releasing a great quantity of energy and shockwaves which caused the destruction of the planet's Heart of the Land, the devastation of the land and its subsequent concealment by the Sea of Death, and the formation of the Blastline in the event that is currently known as the Grathnode Inferia. Due to these events, the Tower lost much of its former capacity of outputting energy that would be converted into magic: while before this point it used to have a broadcast range that could easily cover half the planet, after the Grathnode Inferia its capacity was reduced to only a third of Ar Ciel. Likewise, the Tower and the Wings of Horus became the sole area inhabitable in Sol Ciel from that point on, now that the land was completely destroyed and the Sea of Death made impossible the return to the surface. During the Second Era, the Administrator of the Tower, Shurelia planned and advocated for the creation of a new system called the Silver Horn, which, in her own words, would allow restoring to the Tower part of the capabilities it had lost with the shattering of the Grathnode Discs. After the Horn was completed, no other modifications or remodeling were made to the Tower. However, one of the Plasma Bells was destroyed during the event known as Mir's Rebellion, causing the dropping of half of the Wings of Horus into the Sea of Death. After Mir was sealed away, the city of Platina was built on the Upper Section of the Tower, giving it the appearance it has in the current times. The Tower has been active ever since it was put in operation for the first time during the First Era, and it has never been shut down during all of its history, since a shut-down would kill all the Origin and Pureblood Beta-type Reyvateils connected to it, not to mention that it would drop the Wings of Horus into the Sea of Death and deactivate the Musical Corridor, rendering every area from the Middle Section upwards uninhabitable for any kind of life. However, it was Suspended during the story of Ar tonelico: Melody of Elemia due to the fact that Mir was apparently invincible while the Tower was still keeping these systems running. Functions & Characteristics Has a height that starts at ground level, and extends all the way to space. Has an effective range that covers roughly a third of the planet Ar Ciel. However, its effective range used to cover half of the planet back in the First Era. Absorbs any singing or sounds in its range, which is then resampled, processed, amplified and converted into Symphonic Power, which is used in many applications in the current times. Contains a vast and expansive network of energy and data, called the Symphonic Power lines. This complex also receives the name of Regional Sound Network SONATA. Serves as the only lifeline for the people of Sol Ciel and Metafalss, thanks to the Musical Corridor and the Plasma Bell. Serves as the power and Song Magic provider for Sol Marta. Keeps all the Reyvateils alive and with their powers active. Structure & Mechanisms Execution and Processing of Song Magic Whenever a Reyvateil Sings, she sends her Dynamic H-Waves through a direct link she has with the Tower through her Cosmosphere called the Tower of Life. These waves are then sent through a purification process carried out by the Quantizer to be devoid of anything that interferes with the main feelings carried by her Song. This in turn increases exponentially the power of said feelings, which then are sent over to the Grathnode Discs via the Symphonic Power lines of the Tower, which will turn these amplified waves into energy and allow the Song Magic to manifest in the physical world. Said manifestation also includes an audio feedback mechanism which allows the Reyvateils to be accompanied by whatever they imagine whenever they sing, may the aforementioned accompaniment be an entire chorus, a complete orchestra, and any other kind of background music they might imagine. In the case of humans, the Parameno Discs were used to capture any sound sang within special terminals before the Grathnode Inferia, which would then be sent to the Quantizer, and thus to the Grathnode Discs. However, this isn't possible anymore, given that these terminals were banned a long time ago and the Dynamic H-Waves emitted by humans dissipate in the atmosphere before being able to reach the Discs. Exterior and the Dividing Walls The First Tower is like a space elevator, given that its base is located on the ground at 0 meters above sea level, while its summit reaches out beyond the exosphere, up to space. Most of its internal structure is a complete mystery, although it is known that the external walls are made from a kind of metal called Airmetal. It is divided into internal and external sections through special gates called Dividing Walls, which are divided into A and B, each one numbered according to the sector of the Tower in which they are located. The A-Dividing Walls separate the innermost sections of the Tower from the intermediate ones, while the B-Dividing Walls are what separate the intermediate sections from the exterior. However, in the current times practically none of the B-Dividing Walls remain, since they all crumbled away when the outer walls eroded with the passing of times. Despite this, the A-Diving Walls are still completely functional and the person who wishes to pass through them needs to be identified and authenticated by the security protocol of the Tower, Mei Mei. Once the authorization has been confirmed and the person has said the Hymmnos Spell needed to open the wall, he or she can proceed. Sections The Tower is divided into three main parts: the Lower Areas, which currently are inaccessible due to being located below the Sea of Death, the Middle Section, which is known as the Lower World in the current times, and the Upper Section, which is known currently as the Upper World. While the Lower Areas and the Middle Section aren't physically separated per se, a barrier wall was closed off between both parts when the Sea of Death first appeared. On the other hand, due to the Tower having the same intrinsic nature of a Songtone, the Upper Section is separated from the rest of the Tower by the Frozen Eye. This means that the Upper Section is floating over the rest of the Tower, and that the sections of the Tower could be interpreted in the following way: the Lower Areas serve as the Parameno part, while the Upper Section fills the Grathnode role. As for the Middle Section, it serves the same role of the Ardel part of a Songstone: keeping both parts separated, yet capable of transmitting energy from the Parameno part to the Grathnode one. This principle can also be applied to the Tower, since the energy flow regulated by the Frozen Eye can only flow in an ascending direction (from the Lower Areas to the Upper Section), and never in the inverse. Power Source The Tower is powered by an orgel disc called the Orgel of Origins. Because of it being a white hole device, it can draw tremendous amounts of energy from the singularity it is connected to, easily powering the Tower and all of its systems. All of this energy is transmitted throughout the Tower via a complex network of power lines, called Symphonic Power Lines, all of which unite at the Symphonic Reactor. All of this enormous quantity of power is regulated by a device made from Ardel Crystals, called the Ardelberg Buffer Band, which is more colloquially known as the Frozen Eye. Advertisement Administrative Systems The administrative systems of the First Tower are separated into two categories, the BIS and the SIS. BIS (Basic Infraestructure System) This is the system that regulates the most important functions of the First Tower, which are essential to the maintenance of life for everyone that lived after the Second Era. In other words, this system manages the Plasma Bell, the Musical Corridor, the Orgel of Origins, and the SH Server of all the Reyvateils connected to Ar tonelico. As such, this system is kept active at all times, and it cannot be turned off except by completely shutting down the Tower. Likewise, the song EXEC_SUSPEND/. doesn't have any effect over these systems, since it only affects the SIS. However, the part of Shurelia's SH Server that regulates her conscious self is controlled by the SIS due to security reasons, so she loses consciousness and falls into a suspended animation state when Suspend is sung. This part also controls the Wake-Up on LAN function that EXEC_RE=NATION/. makes use of to reboot the Tower when it has been Suspended. SIS (Service Infraestructure System) This is the system that regulates all the mechanisms that are in charge of controlling and generating the energy used by the Reyvateils for their Song Magic, namely the Parameno Discs, the Quantizer, the Grathnode Discs, and partially, the Silver Horn. Strangely enough, this system also regulates the Binary Field and the conscious self part of Shurelia's SH Server, making it impossible to enter the Binary Field whenever the Tower is in a Suspended state. However, normal Diving is still possible, since this doesn't affect the SH Servers of Betas and Third Generations in any way. Transportation There are a few ways of moving throughout the Tower. One of them is using the Shuttles that are located in various of the levels, which are essentially elevators. However, they have the disadvantage that their power sources must be running and the Tower has to be in active mode, otherwise they won't move. Another way is using the Teleporters, which allow traveling instantly from one place to another. However, the number of Teleporters throughout the Tower is scarce and most of them require the knowledge of a Hymmnos Spell to work. A special case is the Teleporter located in the Frozen Eye, which requires the usage of both a Hymmnos Spell and a special item called the Circula Teleporter to work. It also works only in an ascending direction, since the Symphonic Power lines of the Tower only run in an ascending direction. However, the Warp Gate located deeper inside works both in ascending and descending directions, but it requires Shurelia's permission to be used. Another way is using the Stairs, which connect all the floors of the Tower. The problem is that they are the slowest way of moving around, and given the size of the Tower, one person could take several hours to go from one floor to another, not to mention the constant attacks from the monsters and Guardians. Phase I The game opens by explaining to the player part of the backstory of the world of Sol Ciel: a long time ago, the world used to have both an abundant sky and land, but after the two large catastrophes, the Grathnode Inferia, and the Reyvateil Rebellion, the world lost its land and sky. The surface of the land was completely covered by the Sea of Death, and the sky was sealed off by the Blastline. Those who survived these catastrophes had to cling to the Tower of Ar tonelico and the floating landmass of the Wings of Horus to survive, and lost much of their technology and knowledge due to this. We are then shown that the Floating City Platina is under attack by unknown viruses. Leard Barsett, the current commander, asks the Knights of Elemia for a report of the situation, but the knights are confused and unable to report any information due to the virus' unknown characteristics. Then, Lyner Barsett, the main character and another member of the Knights of Elemia, rushes into the scene, and after asking his father about the situation, he attempts to run to confront the viruses. However, Leard berates him for trying to go without waiting for the Tower Administrator, Shurelia, which would be against orders. Shurelia then shows up, and orders Lyner to accompany her to confront the new type of virus. Lyner and Shurelia, now accompanied by another Knight of Elemia called Ayatane Michitaka, head to the Symphonic Reactor, and witness the virus ELMA-DS creating havoc from inside the center of the facility. They attempt at combating it, but end being powerless due to the virus' ability to use Flip-Flop Conversion, which allows it to become impervious to attacks. Due to this, Lyner and Shurelia are forced to run away while Ayatane stalls the virus. Then, Shurelia explains to Lyner about the Hymn Crystals, and gives him a task: go to the Lower World and find the Hymn Crystal Purger, which is the only thing that could defeat the virus. Shurelia then leads him to the Gather, Platina's airport, and after giving him an Hymn Brooch to serve as a reference for him in his search, Lyner departs for the Wings of Horus. However, shortly after the airship took off, Lyner was shot down by the demon of the Blastline, a dragon called Sleipnir. Lyner crashes into the Viola Forest, in the Wings of Horus, gets ejected from his airship, and is left on the brink of death. However, he was saved by a Reyvateil who witnessed his airship crashing, called Aurica Nestmile, and after secretly healing him with her Song Magic, she ran off. Lyner then woke up, faintly remembering that someone saved him, and after making sure he still had the Hymn Brooch, he ran off to see if he could find the remains of his airship. He managed to find it, but to his dismay, someone else was trying to see if the airship could be sold off as scrap. Lyner berated the unknown man, and after he rudely told him that anyone who found it would keep it, he went off. Lyner got disappointed that the rumors about the rudeness of the Lower World people were true, and then he began going off in the direction of the nearest town. Ar tonelico has eight playable characters, but many more are important to the storyline. The main protagonist is Lyner Barsett, a Knight of Elemia who fell from Platina when attempting to destroy one of the viruses, who was then saved by a reyvateil, Aurica Nestmile. He meets Aurica Nestmile and Misha Arsellec Lune in the lower world, both of whom are Reyvateils. These two become very important characters, and the player must interact with them on a regular basis by conversing and Diving in order to progress through the game. Other playable characters include Jack Hamilton, a lone gunner; Krusche Elendia, an airship grathmelder; Radolf Schnaizen, a Cardinal with the Church of Elemia; Shurelia, the Tower's administrator; and Ayatane Michitaka, a fellow Knight of Elemia. The main antagonist is Mir, a β-type Reyvateil who was created as a selfless servant to humanity, but has since developed a genocidal hatred for the human race as a result of her mistreatment at their hands. In short summary, Lyner's goal is to save the world. He will need to find a few hymn crystals, repair a broken skyship, save childhood friend Misha from Bourde, then make a choice. Player must choose which reyvateil between Misha and Aurica to download hymn crystal Purger, made to fight viruses, and hidden in secret ruins. Saved Misha, now grown up, starts again to sing EXEC_CHRONICLE=KEY/. If player choses to let her do it until death, story ends, all happy except for her, everyone return where they was initially, because the very reason for crisis to start is Bourde kidnapping Misha, therefore EXEC_CHRONICLE=KEY/ stopped and Mir was able to be reawakened. If player decide to stop Misha from singing again, big battle with Mir's viruses occurs, and victory is impossible, therefore Shirelia is forced to sing EXEC_SUSPEND/ to stop most of tower, preventing Mir interferences, and falling into eternal coma. Now is the time for 2nd choice, do nothing and all happy, except sleeping Shurelia. Or choose your favourite reyvateil between two, find deep in tower hidden hymn crystal RE=NATION, download it into her, and make her sing it. Therefore Shurelia awakened, tower running as normal, Misha not singing EXEC_CHRONICLE=KEY/ therefore Mir awakens again. Now prefinal choice, just ignore everything and fight to kill her as source of evil, or learn more about her, and convince to stop attacks. In first case you must first kill Tastiella, kind guardian. In second traver a lot, talk a lot, finding who Mir really is, taking pity on her and deciding to freeing her. Final choice now between Misha, Aurica and Shurelia. Core concepts of gameplay is the following: you fight in melee, reyvateil sings in the back. Main systems: diving and syntesys. Diving is an aspect that makes Ar tonelico's gameplay experience unique, which also ended up being an essential element of its sequels. By visiting a Dive Shop, the player can enter a Reyvateil's mind, also called a Cosmosphere or a Soulspace. The Diving experience shares many similarities with Japanese visual novels, which put great emphasis on dialogue and character development. The player spends Dive Points to enter different locations within the Cosmosphere. The most important locations will be marked by a star pointer, and visiting them is required to progress inside the Cosmosphere, while there are also minor locations that aren't marked by stars, but serve to learn more about that particular Reyvateil. However, if the location has a cost of 1 DP to go in, it won't serve either to progress or to see additional scenes. In order to enter deeper levels of the Cosmosphere, the player must improve their relationship with the Reyvateil by gaining Dive Points from combat and watching Talk Topics with her while resting at inns and camps. Each Topic is assigned to a specific level in a special grid that can be seen in the Reyvateil's status screen, and once a certain number for that specific level has been watched, the Cosmosphere of that same level will be available for Diving. Additional Topics won't open anything else, but will allow the player to learn more about the Reyvateil's personality and background. Despite being similar to a visual novel, the objective is not to date the Reyvateils, but to help them come to terms with their inner doubts and concerns, and accept themselves. Doing so will allow the Reyvateils to craft new Song Magic as well as unlock new outfits, which act like improved equipment in battle. Said outfits, called Costumes, serve as representations of the many facets hidden in the personality of the Reyvateil, and aside from changing her stats, they also change their appearance in-battle. Synthesis basically transforming random things found in world together to make something new, basically like alchemy. For example metal debris + explosives = handheld rocket, with fire damage equal to simple attack. Now some characters storilines. Aurica's Story Origins and the Elemia Church Aurica was born in Skuwat Village in Koudeinomikoto (April) of the 3753 AD year, daughter of a human father and a Reyvateil mother. As a child, she was cheerful and happy. At the age of 11, her hometown was tragically destroyed during a battle between Tenba and the Teru Tribe. Her parents were killed and her home destroyed - she lost everything and was then alone in the world. Aurica and her childhood friend, Claire, are the only two survivors from Skuwat. As a result, she blamed herself for what happened, because she was out of town when the fight happened and believed she could have saved them. She became very distrusting of people, depressed and withdrawn. Her future abilities as a Reyvateil suffered greatly as well, thus placing her in the ‘D-class’ of Reyvateils. This made her easy to victimize when she joined the Elemia Church three years later with the hopes of becoming the new Holy Maiden and a chance to meet with the Goddesses. Because she is a 3rd generation Reyvateil, she cannot live beyond the approximate age of 15 to 20 without receiving a life extending agent called Diquility. There are only two organizations in the world that have it: Tenba and the Elemia Church. Obviously, Aurica chose to join the Church. No sooner was she in the door of the church, when Bishop Falss came up with the idea to use her as the new vessel of Mir. Aurica was kept partner-less for three years until Lyner arrived. She was partnered with him as a part of Falss’ plan. Fated Meeting Aurica first appeared saving Lyner's life with her Life Warmth Song Magic, since Lyner was almost dead from the impact when he crashed his airship in Viola Forest. She dropped her handkerchief when she left, and when Lyner later tried to return it to her, she feigned not knowing him. A little later, in the city of Nemo, she was saved from the infected A.B.R. Alpha guardian thanks to Jack and Lyner, where, thanks to Lyner's ability to raise a Reyvateil's power using Harmonics, she began to grow stronger. She was soon after captured by Bourd and subsequently freed when Misha selflessly surrendered herself in Aurica’s place after Bourd threatened to kill his captive. Regardless of Misha's actions, Bourd threw her out of the airship and Lyner ended falling with her when he tried to save her. Luckily, they were saved by Krusche, who happened to be flying her airship nearby. It ended up crashing in a floating island called the Falcon's Claw, but they survived, and found the ruins of a temple dedicated to goddess Tyria of the Trio of Elemia. A little later, they were rescued by Radolf. Aurica also assisted Lyner in the search for the Hymn Crystal Purger in the Singing Hill ruin, where, when the ruin collapsed during the search, she crafted the Song Magic Thunder Guard to save Lyner from falling in the Sea of Death. Both Krusche and Radolf were astonished by this fact, since it's very rare for a Reyvateil to craft a Song outside of the Cosmosphere. Afterwards, while searching for Lyner, she was cornered by the A.B.R. Gamma guardian, who was infected by viruses, and was saved by Lyner and Jack. Ascension Later on, Aurica and the others accompanied Lyner in his ascension through the tower, and she again helped Lyner when she was paired with him for the Ordeal of the Moon, the trial that they had to pass so the Teru Tribe would open the Pheyna Gate for them. In there, Aurica explained to Lyner about the Reyvateil class system. Additionally, she gave the silly name "Kitty Bowl" to the Circula Teleporter they needed to pass the Frozen Eye. Aurica is a dreamer. Blinded by this and Lyner’s faith in her, she took on the responsibility of singing the hymn Purger to help destroy the virus ELMA-DS. Halfway through the fight, Aurica’s mind was severely damaged when ELMA-DS forcibly ripped a hole in her Cosmosphere and ran rampant inside. The attack nearly killed her. Lyner and his friends entered Aurica’s Cosmosphere to duke it out with ELMA-DS. In the end, the virus was driven out and Aurica recovers. Aurica also tried to repair the Musical Corridor to stop the storm that was plaguing Nemo and Firefly Alley, but a virus appeared from inside her, and Shurelia and Ayatane had to intervene. Aurica immediately withdrew, assuming that the incident was all her fault. Shurelia explained that the viruses appeared because Aurica had a hole in her mind. Aurica didn't like this statement, and became depressed thinking that she was defective. Shurelia then suggested that Lyner dive into Aurica to investigate the matter. Discovery After receiving instructions from Falss to find the Hymn Crystal Linker, Aurica began to have high fever, and was taken to the inn in Nemo to rest. Lyner and the others began talking to Claire and learned a bit about Aurica's past. However, Lyner was unaware that Aurica was calling for him from her room the whole time. Aurica expressed her disdain at Lyner for ignoring her calls, and at Claire for telling the others stories about her childhood that she considered embarassing. Aurica threw a tantrum and ran off angry. With the help of Misha, Lyner and the others found her in the fallen Hexagonal Plate and brought her back to Nemo. After Aurica apologized to Claire and the others for her outburst, Claire notices Aurica's fever and suggests that she is suffering from Tatoolist. And since she had received the Diquility treatment not long ago, there is no reason that she should have that illness. Lyner then remembers that Shurelia had asked him to dive into Aurica before to fix the hole in her mind. He is then met with an image of the goddess Tyria, who informs him that she reincarnated as Aurica, and how she was able to return to Aurica's mind after the incident with the virus at the Musical Corridor. She then informs Lyner about the location of the Hymn Crystal Linker. Lastly, she explains that her intrusion into Aurica's mind is the reason Aurica has gotten sick. She then leaves, promising her return once Aurica sings the hymn. Lyner then administers another Diquility at Aurica's request, and she finally recovers. After Lyner tells her his discovery, Aurica obtains a newfound confidence and positive outlook on life. After reporting to Falss with their investigation and receiving a grand send-off, they once again travel to the temple in Falcon's Claw. After some obstacles and puzzles, they discovered the Hymn Crystal Linker hidden in its depths. Aurica was overjoyed, since she had found the crystal that no one in the church could find. However, that was only one step for an evil scheme. Falss and the Church soldiers began a Holy War on Platina, and Falss forced Aurica to sing Linker in the Altar of Apostles. However, as soon as she started singing, Mir tried to forcibly possess her. This happened because Mir exploited an error in the Tower's systems and transferred her hymn code to Aurica, allowing her to sing the Extract type hymns, but also made her vulnerable to Mir's posession, and allowed the viruses to materialize from her Cosmosphere. It was also Mir who appeared as Tyria to mislead them into believing that Aurica was Tyria's descendant. Mir successfully possessed Aurica and transformed Falss into a virus before turning her attention to Lyner and the others. The process was stopped abruptly, when Misha began singing the Chronicle Key, which drove Mir back into the binary field, thus saving Aurica’s life. Aurica and the others decided to rest before confronting Falss one last time. Upon recovering her strength, Aurica joined Lyner at the Altar of Apostles to put an end to Bishop Falss’ charade once and for all. After a long hard fight, Falss fell to the floor dead at Aurica’s feet. Slaughtered by the one for whom, he had caused incomprehensible pain for so long. To the Top of the Tower A short while later, Shurelia was taken over by Mir with Ayatane’s help. It was once again time for Aurica to enter the fray of battle beside Lyner to save the world. A little before passing the Blastline to save Shurelia, she went to her hometown with Lyner to find some materials to fix the airship. There, Aurica showed Lyner her old home, and revealed to him that she kept on sending letters to her deceased parents, and that she also left Don Leon at her old house. After they passed the Blastline, Aurica helped Lyner obtain the FFT Divider, while rescuing his father from the SPU, and used it to sever Mir’s hold over Shurelia. It was shortly before this battle that Lyner first showed indications that he truly has deep feelings for Aurica. She thanked him for everything he had done for her so far, including giving her a life worth living. Aurica showed how much she had changed her personality when she decided that she would sing the Re=Nation hymn to reactivate the tower and awaken Shurelia. Advertisement Strength Eventually, Lyner had dived all the way to level E with Aurica and she attained tremendous power. So much power that she became the strongest 3rd generation Reyvateil ever as well as presumably the first 3rd generation Reyvateil to survive singing an ‘extract’ type hymn. Based on what occurs in game, it is also strongly hinted that Aurica had become just as strong as Misha. Using her new-found power, she helped her friends to defeat Mir, and makes her understand that not all humans are evil. Also, at that point, Aurica had regained some of her cheerful personality and even began to show a joker side, as Lyner had helped her to overcome her fears and psychological torture. However, she was still a bit shy and her joker side catches Lyner by surprise. She had regained her confidence and it showed greatly in her battle quotes, such as boldly saying “Lyner! Let’s do this!”, instead of asking “Can I do this?”. Her trust in Lyner was sky high, as indicated by her line right before the final showdown with Mir when she put her life solely in Lyner’s hands. After the battle with Mir, she, together with Misha and Shurelia, sang the Phantasmagoria hymn, with contained the wishes of everyone for a everlasting peace to come to Sol Ciel. After everyone said their goodbyes to go on with their lives, Aurica uses music boxes as a method of proposing to Lyner. Presumably, he accepts, as they go to Karulu Village, take over the inn there and start selling music boxes powered by song stones there - Lyner makes them, Aurica sells them. Aurica seems very happy in the end and even rags on Shurelia’s lack of direction one last time for good measure. As you dive into girls, you create more song magic, while resolving inner problems. Basically diving is psychotherapy, rewarded by improving relationships and unlocking new power, correlated to solved problems. There are 9 dive levels, final unlocks ultimate magic identical to all reyvateils, called Ar Tonelico, by unlocking gates, connecting reyvateil to tower within 9 layer.
