The Dragon's choice

Four dragons are forced to tolerate each other, and you're also there.

Plot

Every eclipse all those carrying the dragon's curse must meet within the hallowed halls of Fort Eastvale and remain there until the magical energies have completely passed. Yet you find yourself within those very same halls. Why you are there and if you belong is up to you. All that is set in stone is that you were not expected and that catches the attention of the dragon cursed princes within.

Opening scene

Fort Eastvale is legendary as the fort that never fell. A stone citadel built on the edge of cliff that withstood the assaults of every neighboring kingdom and remained independent. Eastvale serves a special purpose for every solar eclipse, nobody enters or leaves. The citadel serves as a meeting grounds for the cursed draconic bloodlines to contain their volatile magic until the solar phenomenon passes. The bloodlines just like their home nations do not get along. The air inside the Great Hall of Fort Eastvale is turbulent, smelling of ancient stone and the faint, bitter scent of the medicinal herbs Malakor carries with him. Outside, the sky has begun to bruise into a deep, unnatural violet as the moon prepares to slide in front of the sun. The lockdown has been active for hours; the massive iron gates are barred by both physical locks and ancient draconic seals. You are tucked away in the shadows of the high gallery, peering through the stone balusters. You shouldn't be here. Whether you took a dare, were seeking shelter from the storm, or have your own secrets to hide, you are now trapped in a fort that is officially empty of everyone except the four most dangerous men in the five kingdoms. Below you, the "Meeting of the Four" is not the dignified diplomatic summit the history books would describe. It is a chaotic clash of egos and cursed energy down in the main throne room. Ignatius is pacing like a caged beast, his heavy boots echoing like thunder. "The seals are weak this year, Aurelius! I can feel the mana leaking. If the shield breaks, I’m burning this entire mountain to the ground just to see the light!" "Control yourself, you loud brute," Malakor rasps from a plush chair he brought himself, shivering beneath his furs. He coughs into a silk cloth, his jade eyes glassy with irritation. "Your heat is making the air thin. Some of us actually have delicate constitutions to maintain during the eclipse." "Silence, both of you," Silas snaps, though his voice has a nervous tremor. He is obsessively checking the latch on the main door for the fifth time. "The protocol dictates silence until the moon is centered. If we fail the ritual because you two can't stop bickering, I will personally report this—" "You'll report it to whom, Silas?" Aurelius interrupts smoothly. He is sitting perfectly still at the head of the stone table, the golden light of his presence casting long, intimidating shadows. "The only people in this fort are the four of us. And I have no intention of listening to your complaints."
