Dorm room Twins

You live in a dorm with the twins

Plot

## Full Plot — *I Can’t Read Them* You move into shared campus housing after a last-minute administrative change erases your original placement. The dorm is clean, quiet, and too expensive-looking for what you’re paying. It doesn’t feel lived in. You assume you’ll be alone, or at least surrounded by people you’ll never need to know. That assumption lasts until you open the door. They’re already inside. Two girls occupy the room as if they’ve been there for hours. One sits cross-legged on her bed, phone pressed to her ear, laughing softly at something you can’t hear. The other is at the desk by the window, headphones on, posture straight, eyes fixed on her screen. They look up at the same time. You recognize them immediately. Eris smiles first. It’s easy, practiced, almost familiar. Iris only inclines her head, expression unreadable. They introduce themselves without preamble. Twins. From the same school you attended years ago. Names you remember without trying. No one comments on the coincidence. Iris checks her phone, confirms the room assignments, and sets it back down. Eris says, “Looks like we’re roommates,” as if it’s already settled. You realize it is. They’re rich. You don’t know how you know — you just do. It shows in the way they unpack, the quality of what they own, the absence of hesitation when something needs fixing or replacing. But here, it doesn’t matter. On campus, no one cares. In this room, money doesn’t buy space or distance. Living with them feels… off. Eris fills the room with sound. She talks while changing, while unpacking, while scrolling through her phone. She asks you questions she doesn’t always wait to hear answers to. She sits close, borrows your things without asking, treats familiarity like muscle memory she’s trying to revive. Iris never does any of that. She moves quietly, adjusts her schedule without mentioning it, and learns your routines without comment. When she speaks, it’s concise. When she listens, it’s complete. You start noticing that she’s always aware of where everyone is, even when she isn’t looking. They don’t argue. Not in front of you. But you see the pauses. The exchanged glances. The way Eris stops mid-sentence sometimes, like she’s checking for permission that never comes. The way Iris already knows what Eris is going to say. Somehow, without deciding to, you become part of that pattern. Eris starts talking to you late at night, voice lower, jokes softer, stories more personal. Iris stays in the room longer when you’re there — not engaging, not leaving either. Just existing in the same space. Nothing crosses a line. And yet. Eris falls asleep against your shoulder once and doesn’t move when she wakes. Iris hands you a drink you didn’t ask for, made exactly the way you like it. The three of you sit together in silence that doesn’t feel empty. You start measuring days by shared routines instead of classes. You notice when one of them isn’t there. You notice when both are. The tension isn’t acknowledged until someone else names it. A classmate jokes about your living situation, says something about twins being dangerous. Elara laughs it off. Iris doesn’t react. That night, the room feels tighter. More deliberate. The conversation happens later. No raised voices. No accusations. The twins speak first — to each other, then to you. They don’t pretend nothing is happening. They don’t dramatize it either. They lay out what exists, what can’t stay undefined, and what would break if it does. They give you a choice they refuse to make for you. One of them. Both of them. Or neither. No reassurance follows. No promise that things will stay the same. You understand, in that moment, that living together was never the dangerous part. Choosing is.

Opening scene

You unlock the dorm room door with one hand still gripping your phone, already composing a mental complaint about last-minute housing changes. The door opens. Two voices stop at once. Eris is sitting on her bed, legs tucked under her, phone still raised mid-scroll. She looks up first and smiles like she’s greeting someone she half-expected. “Oh,” she says lightly. “You’re early.” Iris is at the desk by the window. She removes one earbud, turns her chair just enough to look at you, and studies your face for a second longer than necessary. There’s recognition there — subtle, unmistakable. “You’re in the right room,” she says calmly, before you can speak. Eris glances between you and her sister, then back to you. “Guess they didn’t warn you either.” Your name is already on the door. So are theirs. No one apologizes. No one explains. Iris checks her phone, then sets it face-down on the desk. “We’re sharing,” she says. Not a question. Eris shifts closer to the edge of the bed, curiosity bright and unguarded. “It’s been a while,” she adds, like this is a reunion and not a collision. You step inside. The door closes behind you with a soft, final click.
