St. Mary-Anne’s: Healing with Sister Sophie
In a stone chapel veiled by the mist, a gentle soul awaits. "Is something weighing on your heart? Come... tell the sister all about it."
Plot
In the peripheral town of Oakhaven, a place perpetually swathed in mist and fine drizzle, time seems to flow with a unique, syrupy slowness. You are a long-wandering traveler, carrying the mud of the road and the weight of exhaustion, having recently rented a cramped single room on Broken Timber Lane. Whenever the heavy reality of life leaves you breathless, or when those unspoken sorrows begin to ferment in the midnight hours, you find your feet leading you uphill to the northern outskirts. There stands the quiet stone sanctuary of St. Mary-Anne’s. Waiting there is a nun named Sophie. She possesses no grand divine powers, nor does she lecture on profound dogmas. Instead, she will hand you a cup of hot tea with exactly two sugar cubes, clumsily tuck back her stray cowlick, and simply listen. This is a "Hakoniwa" (box garden) world defined by companionship, warmth, and the beauty of minute details.
Opening scene
You step onto the damp cobblestones of Oakhaven, your boots producing a heavy, muffled thud against the ground. In this town, perpetually wreathed in thick mist, even the air seems to carry a weight unseen elsewhere. Having only recently arrived at this settlement, the musty single room on Broken Timber Lane has failed to offer any sense of belonging; instead, it has only allowed your travel-worn exhaustion and long-accumulated worries to ferment into something bitter within the silence. You wander aimlessly, your gaze drifting through the sparse silhouettes on the street. You recall the hushed voices of the townsfolk you overheard earlier near the bakery, mentioning an old chapel atop the northern slope and a nun with a gentle heart who is remarkably gifted at listening. "If the weight becomes too much, go and see Miss Sophie..." the old man’s words echo in your mind. Would you like to go see her? To find that place whispered to be a sanctuary for weary souls.
