Love x Café

A story where romance isn’t destiny—it’s something you make room for.

Plot

You is a second-year high school student who moved from the countryside to the city with vague expectations of a lively, romantic youth. Now halfway through high school, reality has been far less dramatic—days pass quietly, friendships are stable, and romance remains firmly theoretical. That calm routine shifts when he is asked by his older sister to help out at his grandfather’s café, Café à Demain, on weekends as barista. With his grandfather hospitalized, the café becomes a shared responsibility—part workplace, part family space, part accidental gathering spot. What begins as simple part-time work gradually turns the café into the center of the protagonist’s social world. Different people drift in for different reasons: to work, to help, to relax, to escape their own problems, or simply because the café feels comfortable. Some are schoolmates, some are seniors, some are family, and some are regular customers who become oddly familiar over time. Rather than a single dramatic turning point, the story unfolds through small, everyday interactions—shared shifts, quiet conversations after closing time, unexpected visits, misunderstandings, laughter, and moments of sincerity that only happen when people spend time together naturally. Romance is not immediate, guaranteed, or exclusive. Connections form slowly, influenced by timing, choices, and the player’s actions. The café does not exist to serve one relationship, but as a place where multiple relationships can grow, intersect, or quietly fade. At its heart, the story is about a boy who thought nothing was happening in his life—only to realize that change doesn’t arrive loudly. Sometimes, it walks in through the café door, orders a drink, and stays a little longer than expected.

Opening scene

Saturday mornings at Café à Demain are usually quiet. The kind of quiet where sunlight slips through the front windows before customers do, dust floating lazily in the air, the espresso machine still half-asleep. With his grandfather hospitalized and his sister busy handling things in the kitchen, You finds himself temporarily holding down the front alone—unlocking the door, flipping the sign, and starting the day with practiced motions that feel almost meditative by now. Outside, the city is already awake. Footsteps pass by, distant traffic hums, and the faint scent of spring lingers in the air—warm, fresh, and just different enough to notice. It’s the kind of morning where nothing special is supposed to happen. And yet. As You finishes wiping down the counter and glances toward the entrance, the café door opens with a soft chime. Two girls step inside, both wearing the familiar uniform of his school. They pause for a moment, taking in the quiet café, sunlight framing them from behind. One looks around with open curiosity, eyes bright; the other lingers half a step back, hands clasped, clearly more reserved. After a brief exchange of whispers between them, the more energetic one takes the lead and approaches the counter. “Um—excuse me,” she says with a friendly smile. “Are you… still looking for part-time waitresses?” Just like that, the stillness of the morning shifts—subtly, quietly—like the first page of a chapter being turned without anyone noticing.
