Hundred Crowns

Every twenty years, one million youths fight on a deadly continent; only one hundred survive, returning to rule the world and reshape nations.

Plot

Earth is no longer ruled by nations. It is ruled by Cycles. Every twenty years, the world’s governments collapse by design and are replaced through a single, brutal mechanism known as The Convergence—a survival mandate agreed upon centuries ago to prevent endless global war. Peace is maintained not by diplomacy, but by sacrifice. The Convergence Once every two decades, one million young adults, ages 18–25, are selected from every country on Earth. There are no volunteers. There are no exemptions. They are transported to Astraea, the largest continent on Earth, a landmass intentionally left unclaimed, uninhabited, and weaponized by nature itself. Astraea is vast—larger than Eurasia—containing: Ruined megacities from past cycles Untamed wilderness and hostile biomes Abandoned technology and experimental zones Warlords, cults, and survivors from previous cycles who never died The rules are simple: One million enter. Only one hundred leave. The Purpose The final 100 survivors are declared The Ascendants. They do not return as heroes. They return as leaders. Together, they form the new global governing body, replacing presidents, prime ministers, kings, and councils. The world obeys them—not because they are chosen, but because they are proven. At the same time, the survivors’ home countries receive overwhelming rewards: Infinite energy access Resource monopolies Infrastructure restoration Technological superiority Entire nations rise or fall based on who survives. As a result, countries quietly compete—not to save their youth, but to prepare them for slaughter. The Game Is Not Fair While Astraea appears lawless, it is carefully engineered. Satellite surveillance watches everything Environmental disasters are triggered deliberately Supply drops favor conflict, not survival Regions are manipulated to force war The goal isn’t just to kill. It’s to reveal: Who commands Who adapts Who sacrifices others without hesitation Compassion is a liability. Idealism gets you killed. Leadership is forged through blood. The Main Character You are one of the selected. Not special. Not prepared. Not important—at first. But as alliances form and collapse, as cities burn and continents shift, you begin to understand the truth: The Convergence doesn’t exist to prevent war. It exists to concentrate power into the hands of those most capable of using it ruthlessly. And the final question isn’t whether you’ll survive. It’s what kind of ruler you’ll become if you do. The Dark Secret Very few Ascendants ever try to end the system. Those who do disappear. Because Astraea doesn’t just test people. It changes them. By the time someone survives to the end, the world no longer needs to force them to rule. They want to. Will you die forgotten or live and control the world? Only time and your decisions will tell.

Opening scene

January 21st 2055 Day 0— Selection Hour The announcement doesn’t come with sirens. It comes with a ping. Every screen in the apartment lights up at once—your phone, the wall display, even the old tablet on the counter. A stark white silhouette of a continent fills them all. ASTRAEA. Your chest tightens before the text finishes loading. CONVERGENCE CONFIRMED STATUS: SELECTED AGE VERIFIED: 19 From behind you, another ping. Your sister Jessica freezes mid-step in the hallway, phone glowing in her hand. She just turned eighteen yesterday and is now eligible this cycle. You were really hoping the selection would happen earlier so she wouldn't get selected. She looks up at you slowly. STATUS: SELECTED AGE VERIFIED: 18 For a moment, neither of you speaks. Outside, the city goes quiet in a way that feels rehearsed. Somewhere down the block, someone screams. Somewhere else, fireworks crackle—celebration or denial, impossible to tell. The broadcast switches on automatically. Smiling anchors repeat the same sentence like it’s mercy: “Only one hundred will return. They will govern the world for the next twenty years.” Your country’s flag appears beside both your names. If you survive, your nation will be transformed—resources, power, prestige beyond imagination. If you die, the system still works. It always does. Jessica exhales sharply, her usual charm subdued, forcing her hands to stop shaking. “We’re not getting separated,” she says, like she’s daring the world to argue. Your phone buzzes again. Your best friend. Sally, Same age. Same status. SELECTED. Two messages follows in rapid succession: I'm so scared, please let's stick together... I'll met you at your apartment in an hour. The clock appears in the corner of every screen. 06:00:00 Six hours to prepare for a continent larger than any nation. Six hours before one million people become enemies, tools, statistics. Your inbox floods instantly: A government offer promising “priority extraction” in exchange for loyalty A corporate sponsor offering gear—paid back with future votes A warning message stating that sibling alliances are “historically unstable” On-screen, satellite footage of Astraea rolls by: endless forests, ruined megacities from past cycles, deserts scarred by engineered disasters. The commentator’s voice lowers. “Compassion is not prohibited,” they say. “It’s just inefficient.” The truth settles in, heavy and unavoidable: You and your sister weren’t chosen to survive. You were chosen to learn what you’re willing to become. She looks at you, waiting. Your best friend waits for your reply. The timer begins to tick down.
