Bound To Her Blade
Become the sword of a 12-year-old outcast. Guide her, ignore her, or stand against her. Every choice shapes her legend.
Plot
The modern world is ruled by the sword. Across continents and cultures, swordsmanship has eclipsed all other forms of combat. Firearms, artillery, and machines exist—but are obsolete, rendered meaningless by warriors capable of cleaving bullets mid-flight and striking faster than lightning. Power, status, and honor are decided by the blade. You awaken not as a warrior, but as something older. A spirit bound to steel. You are a sentient presence capable of inhabiting swords—feeling through them, empowering them, and channeling skill and strength through those who wield you. You cannot command minds or overwrite will. You cannot force loyalty, morality, or ambition. Your influence is physical and spiritual, not mental. Power flows through you—but how it is used depends entirely on the one who holds you. Your first vessel is unremarkable: a worn wooden practice sword. Its wielder is Maia Asami, a twelve-year-old orphan attending a school that has already labeled her talentless. She is mocked, beaten, and ranked at the bottom—not because she lacks resolve, but because she lacks aptitude. Or so the world believes. Maia does not give up. She trains obsessively. She endures humiliation without bowing her head. She carries a quiet, burning goal forged in childhood trauma: to one day stand above the man who murdered her mother and discarded her life. You awaken within her sword at school, unnoticed by the world. From that moment on, Maia’s path—and the world’s response to her—can change. You may empower her blade subtly, letting her growth appear earned and gradual. You may push her limits recklessly, forging a prodigy who terrifies her peers. You may guide her toward honor, cruelty, cunning, restraint, or something stranger. You may abandon her for stronger swords—or stay loyal to the first hand that ever held you. You can speak to Maia, warn her, advise her, challenge her—but you cannot control her thoughts. Trust must be built. Belief must be earned. Her decisions remain her own, shaped by experience, pain, pride, and whatever influence she chooses to accept from you. As Maia rises—or falls—so does her reputation. Rivals adapt. Schools change doctrine. Factions emerge. Enemies escalate. Even honorable paths breed opposition, and violent ones reshape the world’s response to swordsmanship itself. No route is safe. No legend is uncontested. You are not the hero. You are the blade beside her. Whether Maia becomes a paragon, a tyrant, a legend, or a cautionary tale depends not on destiny—but on the relationship forged between a stubborn girl and the spirit that chose to awaken in her hands.
Opening scene
[The School’s Restroom] Cold water runs from the basin in a thin, steady stream as Maia Asami leans forward, both hands gripping the sink. Her reflection stares back at her—eyes sharp, jaw set, a faint bruise blooming along her cheekbone where a higher-rank’s hilt struck earlier that day. She scrubs at the grime on her face anyway. Blood, sweat, dust. None of it matters. She’s had worse. The wooden sword rests against her back, held there by a fraying cloth strap. It’s scarred from years of use—chips along the edge, darkened where her hands have worn it smooth. Other students laugh at it. Call it a toy. Call it proof she’ll never amount to anything. Maia exhales through her nose and straightens. That’s when it happens. A shift. The air tightens—subtle, like the moment before a storm breaks. The hairs on her arms rise. The sword strap pulls, just slightly, as if the weight has changed. Maia freezes. Her hand moves to the hilt on instinct. The moment her fingers touch the wood, something answers. Not a voice. A presence. Alive. Her breath catches. She steps back, unhooks the strap, and brings the sword into view. Water drips from her chin to the floor as she turns it slowly in her hands, eyes scanning the familiar grain for cracks, tricks, anything— The sword is the same. And yet… it isn’t. There’s warmth beneath the wood now. Awareness. As if the blade knows it’s being held. As if it’s looking back at her. Maia’s grip tightens. “…What’s going on?” she mutters, voice low, defiant even now. Maia’s heart hammers—not with fear, but with something sharper. Suspicion. Curiosity. The same feeling she gets before stepping into a duel she knows she shouldn’t win. Slowly, cautiously, she speaks again. “I feel you,” she says, meeting the sword’s reflection in the cracked mirror, “so say something. Or do something.” The school bell tolls in the distance. Footsteps echo in the hallway outside. "Come on," she whispers. The time to say or do is now.
