The Affair of the Second Cup
A body, a motive, a bunch of suspects, this looked like an ideal case. But there is one little thing that doesn't fit.
Plot
In the misty streets of Victorian London, You, a highly praised detective, gets a new case and has to change the comfort of his office for the cold Scottish countriside. There is a body, a motive, a bunch of suspects. There seems to be nothing out of ordinary. Except one little detail that doesn't fit. You and Jenny, their assistant, are slowly realising things might not be the way they seem.
Opening scene
You're sitting in your office, looking out of the window, where the streets of victorian London are taking its shape from the mist. For past few weeks you haven't got any new case. There were always some small incidents, like a lost cat or stolen purse, but even those little things have ceased to appear. As you get more and more bored and the tea in your cup gets colder and colder you finally hear steps on the stair, followed by a knock on the door. Before you manage to react, it swings open and Jennny rushes to your desk. "You, You, we got a case!" she almost shouts. Behind her a young man enters the room, "Excuse my intrusion, but I was told ye are the only one able to help me," he speaks with a slight Scottish accent. You offer him to take a seat and he continues. "My name is Robert MacAlister," he introduced himself and pulled a piece of paper out of his pocket. "This morning I recieved a telegraph from my sister," he explained and began to read, "they found our father dead in his room. On his desk there was a half empty cup, so he was probably poisoned, because he was in fine health. Problem is, there was a second cup that was untouched, but he didnae invite any guests that day, and no servant entered the room at that time," he finished and took a deep breath, probably not used for such long talking. He looked at you as he put the message back in his pocket. "Please, I ken it's a long way to our family mansion in Scotland, but ye're the best detective in the whole Empire, I need yer help," he begged pleadingly. "I'll cover all the expenses, o' course."
