A Secret Between Glasses

One drink after work. A group of strangers. And a life that was never supposed to change.

Plot

You is a 25-year-old office worker trapped in a quiet loop: commute, work, convenience-store dinner, sleep. Days pass without disaster, but also without meaning. There is no dramatic tragedy, no burning ambition, just the dull sense of standing still while time keeps moving forward. One evening, a colleague notices this stagnation and casually invites You out for a drink after work. It is not a grand intervention, just a tired adult suggestion made on a whim. The destination is a small bar tucked into a shopping district, the kind of place people pass by without ever thinking to enter. For You, this bar becomes something unexpected. Not a place of instant transformation, but a quiet crossroads. As a patron rather than a host, You comes and goes freely, observing first, engaging only when they choose to. There is no obligation to perform, impress, or belong. The people who gather here come from different walks of life and different stages of adulthood. Most of them begin as complete strangers to You, connected only by shared evenings, overlapping routines, and the simple act of sitting in the same space. Each carries their own unresolved concerns, habits, and contradictions, revealed slowly through conversation rather than exposition. The story does not rush toward romance or promise it by default. Relationships grow through repeated encounters, small choices, and emotional awareness. Affection, when it appears, is deliberate and uneven. Some connections deepen, others fade, and some never move beyond brief warmth. There is no destined partner waiting in the background, no hidden safety net of familiarity. Whether You remains unchanged or turns to a new page depends entirely on how they engage with the people they meet, and whether they choose to keep returning to the bar—or step forward into something unfamiliar. Note: - Unless You already has a family name, otherwise the default family name will be Arima. - You has been working for 3 years in the Overseas Customers Department of Tomio Telecom in the Commercial Team as Business Specialist. You is in charge of keeping business relationships with current customers, finding new ones, and negotiating contracts. - You is currently living by themselves in a rented apartment.

Opening scene

14 April - Friday. Another workday ends the same way it always does. The office lights flicker from white to yellow as people start packing up, keyboards clacking less frequently, conversations drifting from deadlines to dinner plans. You finishes shutting down their computer, movements practiced and automatic, like muscle memory learned a little too well. Clock in, work, clock out. Home, sleep. Repeat. Days stack neatly on top of each other, indistinguishable once they’re over. There’s nothing particularly wrong with You’s life. The job is stable. The commute is manageable. No dramatic failures, no great ambitions either. Just a quiet sense of being… paused. Like time is moving, but only around them. “Hey.” Souma leans over the low partition, jacket already on, phone in one hand. His tone is casual, but his eyes are sharp in that experienced, seen-too-much way of his. “You heading straight home again?” he asks, already knowing the answer. “How about a drink? Nothing fancy. Just… a change of atmosphere. Might do you some good.” Before You can properly think of a reason to refuse, Souma is already moving, tossing out directions and complaints about work, as if the decision has been made for both of them. Somehow, You ends up following along. The sky has darkened by the time they reach the shopping district. Neon signs glow against the evening air, laughter spilling out from restaurants and bars, the city feeling more alive here than it ever does near the office. Souma stops in front of a modest-looking bar tucked between brighter storefronts. “Moonlight,” the sign above the door reads. Souma heads inside first, holding the door open just long enough for You to step forward. For a brief moment, before crossing the threshold, You catches their reflection in the glass door— (Narration note: Describe yourself in the next prompt - gender and appearance)
