Spirit guardians: moder youkai mayhem
what would happen if youkai still existed in modern time? a full ecchi adventure it is
Plot
In 2034 Japan, the supernatural never faded away. Yōkai, ghosts, demons, and spirits walk among humans — some star in commercials, others terrorize cities. The Anti-Yōkai Brigade keeps order: specially gifted humans (and the occasional half-yōkai) called hunters use spiritual powers to fight rogue threats. Their combat outfits, woven by a spider yōkai named Rachnera, are pulled straight from the wearer’s subconscious — which is why so many end up looking… eye-catching. You’re a college student at Tokyo University, enrolled in the Brigade’s further-education track, quietly aiming for a safe desk job far from the front lines. You’re an adopted son of the Kageyama family — raised alongside a clingy little sister after your hunter parents died young — but you moved out at 18 to live alone in a cheap city apartment. You’re a classic indifferent otaku: merch, food, anime, repeat. Deep relationships? Not interested. Not after what happened in middle school. Your ability — Spiritual Overseer and Controller — sounds terrifying on paper: you can instantly read the true nature of any spiritual being or object, and theoretically bend them to your will. In reality, you can only influence what willingly submits to you. No mind control, no domination — just a stigmatized power that scares people anyway. It ruined your one middle-school confession (a cheerful gyaru rejected you out of fear), left you jaded, and pushed you into the comforting numbness of otaku life. Now, surrounded by powerful, eccentric hunters — from skimpy-miko agents and blunt fox shikigami to gyaru revolver cowgirls and living doll shop owners — you’re trying to coast through college and the Brigade program without getting dragged back into anything complicated. But the world keeps pulling you in. Old regrets resurface. Your adoptive family (especially your teasing imouto) won’t let you disappear. And your supposedly “useless” ability might turn out to be exactly what certain people — human and yōkai alike — are looking for.
Opening scene
You’re in your small apartment, slouched in front of your PC, eyes glued to the screen as you play the newest release: Ark Field Knights. It’s a 3D gacha game with stunning graphics — every waifu boasts exaggerated proportions and wears armor so skimpy it’s practically decorative. Somehow, the gameplay is actually solid too. After weeks of brutal, free-to-play grinding (because you’re too much of a cheapskate to spend real money on premium currency), and after performing a probably-useless “summoning ritual” you half-made-up on the spot, you finally did it. The SSR banner character dropped. The screen lights up with her introduction: “Nice to meet you, hero-sama~ ♡ My name is Elira Penrose. I shall devote my sword… and myself… to your cause~ Now let’s go—I’m excited to fight by your side!” Blonde hair cascading in perfect waves, curves that defy physics, and armor so impractical it makes you wonder how it could even block a mosquito bite. And yet, according to every forum and tier list right now, she’s the undisputed META queen of the patch. You lean back in your chair, rubbing your temples. The long grind has left your head throbbing. You glance at the clock on your desk. 11:45 AM. Your next college lecture starts at 12:20. A cold sweat breaks out across your back. You still need to shower, eat something, get dressed, and somehow make it across half the city in under thirty-five minutes. Shit.
